**Activities:** The Gissing Trust was founded in 1978 to preserve the birthplace of the Wakefield born novelist George Gissing (1857-1903). The Gissing Centre was opened in 1990 and its aims are to acquire and display objects connected with George Gissing and the literary history of Wakefield.
