HAFFNER ORCHESTRA ANNUAL REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 JULY 2024 Objectives and Aetlvities The Haffiier Orchestra exists to develop and maintain public educalion in and appreciation of, the art and science of music in all its aspects by any means the ttustees see fJL including through the presentation of public conc¢rts. Achievementy Performanee and Publle Benellt During the year the orchestra held three regular con¢eTts. The fjrst two, in November 2023 and March 2024, w¢re in the Greal Hall al Lancaster University. The remaining concert in June 2024 was in the Ashton Hall al Laibcaster Town Hall. The public supported our concerts with full houses and audience numbers of 628, 581 and 512 respecliv¢ly. All thrc¢ concerts were with our new Musical Director. Alex Robinson and were v¢ry well receiv¢d. In addition lo our regular concerts, we engaged more widely with the community. tn Oclober. as part of Lancaster Music Festival, we played in the Marke￿ale shopping centre. Onlookers were invited to ty their hand at conducting and much fun was had by all. In June we put on a perforniance of Peter and the Wolf. symphonic tale for children by Prokofiev. This was fr¢e to local schools and home-schooled children. Over 41K) hildren aged 8-1 O years old attended and they asked sorne very thoughiful questions afteThvards. Playing members of the orchestra are loyal and commill¢d. Nearly all sections are full. Members pay a subscription and this together with healthy ticket sales from sell oui concerts and the financial support of sponsors and patrons, enables ihe committee to plan exciting concert programmes with ¢xrelleni soloists. We can offer free playing membership to slud¢nts, fr¢¢ concert tickets to those aged 18 years and under and cheap tickets lo students and benefil claimants. The trustees consider that th¢y hav¢ complied with the duty in section 4 of the Charities Aci 2012 to hav¢ due r¢gard to th¢ public benefit guidance publishd by th¢ Charity Commission. Financial Review The charity maintains suffici¢nl free r¢serv¢$ to enabl¢ them to cover one y¢ar'$ fixed and administrative expenses. Reserves as ai the year end are £53.811 (2023 - £47.270). The charity has sufficient funds lo mert its liabilities. Non¢ of the trustees received any remuneration or ¢xpens¢s during th¢ year. Struclure, Governance and Management The society was registered as a charity on 16 April 1980. The charity is governed by its constitution which was adopted on 20 July 1976 and amended 27 June 1978 and l O October 2008. The Orchestrd adoptcd a new constitution in September 2021 to reflect best practice. New trustees are appointed on election by the society members. INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF HAFFNER ORCHESTRA I report on the unaudited acwunts of the charity for th¢ year ended 31 July 2024 set out on pages 5 to 7. Responsibiliti¢$ and basls of report As the charity's trustees you are restK)nsible for the preparntion of the &ccounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act,). I report in respect of my examination of the charity's accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5Xb) of the Act. I confrm that no material matters have come to my attention in wnnection with the cxamination giving me cause lo beli¢ve thal in any material respect: accounting records were not kept in respecl of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or Ihe accounts do noi accord with thos¢ records.
