## **Trustees Report**

The Trustees hereby present their report along with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 March 2026 in accordance with the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) ‘Accounting and Reporting by Charities’ (2005).

## Structure, Governance and Management

Dewsbury and District Sea Cadet Unit consists of uniformed staff, civilian staff and a unit management committee. All members undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and safeguarding training before being able to work alongside cadets, which is updated every 5 years.

The Committee currently has 6 non-uniform members and one 1 ex officio member and our aim remains to reach out to the parents of cadets and the local community of Ossett to become further involved in supporting the unit, whilst continuing encouraging recruitment and fostering local interest and support.

This has been a fruitful 12 months where we have seen the lower floor of the building completely converted into a space for training and activities. The remaining downstairs area is almost finished but is still requiring kitchen units and appliances. When it is complete the first phase of renovation will provide a modern, bright and pleasant meeting place and the area will be available for local hire as well as area events.

The 2[nd] phase of renovation is well under way with the upper floor about to be completely stripped back and new plaster, woodwork, flooring, lighting etc installed. Following a generous donation toward this remedial work we are optimistic that further funding will be sourced.

The Unit Management Team continue to meet every 4-5 weeks. Minutes are recorded and robust financial monitoring is in place and are uploaded to Westminster.

Dewsbury District Sea Cadet Unit consists of a Junior Section (9-12 yrs), and Sea Cadets (12-18 yrs). We have a successful growing cadet force of 21 cadets overall, 9 of which are junior cadets. Our priority now is to move forward at pace to obtain further funding and to meet the needs of our expanding corps.

We are grateful for the time and effort our CO and PO’s contribute to training our young cadets who continue to meet and share in events at Leeds unit and learn water skills at Beaver boating lake whilst also being involved in wider district competitions and awards. We continue to open Tuesday and Friday evenings and host regular training weekends and support local community events.

We are very optimistic about the future of our unit and proud of what has already been achieved in 2025/26. TS Radiant continues its outreach into the local community building on the good will already achieved. Subscriptions remain reasonable so that we remain accessible to all young people regardless of gender, religion, race, ability or family background and offer support to any who require financial assistance.

Revd Ann Pollard Chair/Chaplain TS Radiant Dewsbury and District Sea Cadet Unit. 31[st] March 2026

## **Reconciliation from Accounts Spreadsheet**

During the 2025/26 financial year we have received grants totalling £60,000 for Phase 2 of the ground floor renovation work. There were two grants from the Donald Gosling Foundation, one for £20,000 and a further grant of £20,000 on condition of match funding. We received £19,000 from MSSC and two donations from local companies of £500 each, which made up the match funding for the second Donald Gosling Foundation grant.

Phase 2 of the ground floor renovation work is now completed and we have had an offer from Howdens for the donation of some kitchen units which will complete the new facilities on the ground floor.

There have also been grants, from The Yorkshire Cadet Trust for the purchase of a gazebo, The Ossett Rotary Club for the purchase of an overhead projector for the renovated mess deck area and from Future Innovations a grant towards our running costs.

Page 7

Work is ongoing to apply for funding to support the next phases of the renovation particularly for the renovation of the 1st floor; a project to create disabled access to the building and for funds to support our running costs.

## **Reserves Policy**

The committee is agreed that we should aim to hold at least 3 months unrestricted funds. At the end of the financial year unrestricted funds amounted to £3,293.05. Based on the average monthly expenditure of unrestricted funds for 2025/26 of £857 the Unit holds 3.8 months of unrestricted funds. This is monitored in a cash flow spreadsheet which is updated monthly.
