## Statement of Trustees' Responsibilities

The trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees' Report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).

The law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources of the charity for that period. In preparing the financial statements the trustees are required to:

select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently; observe the methods and principles in the Charity SORP; make judgments and accounting estimates that are reasonable and prudent; and prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in business.

## Achievements and Performance of the Trust

The Charity has continued to provide its wide range of spiritual and religious philosophy services to the community. This includes the advancement of the Sikh religion through propagation and the practice of Sikh Dharam, based on the teachings of our Ten Gurus and Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, "The Eternal Guru" — the sacred scriptures of the Sikhs.

Bebe Nanaki Gurdwara provides a wide range of activities for the community (Sangat), including religious functions such as prayers, Gurpurabs, Amrit Sanchar, Akhand Paths, Kirtan Darbars, civil and religious wedding services, and funeral services. It also serves as a learning hub, offering educational classes, musical training including Harmonium and Tabla, yoga, Panjabi language classes, Gurbani Santhiya, health awareness sessions, and the promotion of Seva (Selfless Service) as well as equal opportunities for women to ensure fairness and inclusion.

Free vegetarian meals from the Guru's Kitchen (Langar) are provided to all devotees and community members, irrespective of faith, caste, gender or background, with Langar operating to a high food standard agency rating. The Trust Board's vision is to uplift humanity through the practice of Sikh faith values, within a context of shared responsibility, selflessness, love, forgiveness and compassion. The Charity's fundraising continues to rely on voluntary donations and contributions received at religious functions and gatherings. None of this would be possible without the blessings of Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj, the spiritual guidance of our late founder Chairperson Bibi Balwant Kaur Ji MBE, and the continuing support and dedication of our committee, voluntary Sevadaars and congregation.

The Gurdwara fully participated in Nagar Kirtan in April 2024, and celebrated Siri Guru Nanak Dev Maharaj Ji's Gurpurab (November 2024) and Bebe Nanaki Ji's Janam Utsav (Birthday) in April 2024, alongside all Shaheedi Smagams, Gurpurabs and Vaisakhi celebrations. Throughout the year, Bebe Nanaki Gurdwara also facilitated 60 Siri Akhand Paths, 145 Siri Sukhmani Sahib Paths, 30 Siri Sehaj Paths, 4 Engagements, 2 Weddings, and 29 Funerals.

The Trust Board and Management Team are planning to renovate and refurbish the Trust's houses in the foreseeable future, to enable educational and recreational classes — disrupted during the Covid-19 pandemic — to resume; this remains a high priority. The Gurdwara's front façade renovation project also remains a high priority. Looking ahead, the Board will continue to build on projects delivered in previous years, with planned areas of development including refurbishing the gents', ladies' and disabled toilets, establishing a library service, improving the front façade, and repairing the empty houses to establish and expand a programme for the elderly and an education centre. These developments will be progressed as resources allow, in line with the Sikh values of Seva (Selfless Service) and Sarbat da Bhalla (Welfare for All).

The Gurdwara Trustees will continue to provide its core activities in the coming years, ensuring the Charity continuously evolves and improves its services to the community.

## BEBE NANKI CHARITABLE TRUST

(Registered Charity No: 508859)

## Independent Auditor's Report to the Trustees of Bebe Nanki Charitable Trust

## Opinion

We have audited the financial statements of BEBE NANKI CHARITABLE TRUST (the "charity") for the year ended 31 December 2024 which comprise the Statement of Financial Activities (including Income and Expenditure Account), Statement of Financial Position and the related notes, including a summary of significant accounting policies. The financial reporting framework that has been applied in their preparation is applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice), including FRS 102 "The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland".

In our opinion the financial statements:

- give a true and fair view of the state of the charity's affairs as at 31 December 2024 and of its incoming resources and application of resources, for the year then ended;

have been properly prepared in accordance with United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice; and have been prepared in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011.

## Basis for Opinion

We conducted our audit in accordance with International Standards on Auditing (UK) (ISAs (UK)) and applicable law. Our responsibilities under those standards are further described in the Auditor's responsibilities for the audit of the financial statements section of our report. We are independent of the charity in accordance with the ethical requirements that are relevant to our audit of the financial statements in the UK, including the FRC's Ethical Standard, and we have fulfilled our other ethical responsibilities in accordance with these requirements. We believe that the audit evidence we have obtained is sufficient and appropriate to provide a basis for our opinion.

## Conclusions Relating to Going Concern

In auditing the financial statements, we have concluded that the trustees' use of the going concern basis of accounting in the preparation of the financial statements is appropriate.

Based on the work we have performed, we have not identified any material uncertainties relating to events or conditions that, individually or collectively, may cast significant doubt on the charity's ability to continue as a going concern for a period of at least 12 months from when the financial statements are authorized for issue.

Our responsibilities and the responsibilities of the trustees with respect to going concern are described in the relevant sections of this report.

## Other Information

The other information comprises the information included in the trustees report, other than the financial statements and our auditor's report thereon. The trustees are responsible for the other information contained within the trustees report. Our opinion on the financial statements does not cover the other information and we do not express any form of assurance conclusion thereon. In connection with our audit of the financial statements, our responsibility is to read the other information and, in doing so, consider whether the other information is materially inconsistent with the financial statements or our knowledge obtained in the audit or otherwise appears to be materially misstated. If we identify such material inconsistencies or apparent material misstatements, we are required to determine whether this gives rise to a material misstatement in the financial statements themselves. If, based on the work we have performed, we conclude that there is a material misstatement of this other information, we are required to report that fact. We have nothing to report in this regard.

## Matters on Which We Are Required to Report by Exception

We have nothing to report in respect of the following matters in relation to which the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 require us to report to you if, in our opinion:

the information given in the Trustees' Report is inconsistent in any material respect with the financial statements; or sufficient accounting records have not been kept; or

the financial statements are not in agreement with the accounting records or returns; or we have not received all the information and explanations we require for our audit.

## Responsibilities of Trustees

As explained more fully in the Trustees' Responsibilities Statement set out on page 2-3, the trustees are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements and for being satisfied that they give a true and fair view, and for such internal control as the trustees determine is necessary to enable the preparation of financial statements that are free from material misstatement, whether due to fraud or error. In preparing the financial statements, the trustees are responsible for assessing the charity's ability to continue as a going concern, disclosing, as applicable, matters related to going concern and using the going concern basis of accounting unless the trustees either intend to liquidate the charity or to cease operations, or have no realistic alternative but to do so.

(Registered Charity No: 508859)

## Independent Auditor's Report to the Trustees of Bebe Nanki Charitable Trust

## Auditor's Responsibilities for the Audit of the Financial Statements

We have been appointed as auditor under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 and report in accordance with the Act and relevant regulations made or having effect thereunder.

Our objectives are to obtain reasonable assurance about whether the financial statements as a whole are free from material misstatement, whether due to fraud or error, and to issue an auditor's report that includes our opinion. Reasonable assurance is a high level of assurance, but is not a guarantee that an audit conducted in accordance with ISAs (UK) will always detect a material misstatement when it exists. Misstatements can arise from fraud or error and are considered material if, individually or in the aggregate, they could reasonably be expected to influence the economic decisions of users taken on the basis of these financial statements.

## Explanation as to what extent the audit was considered capable of detecting irregularities, including fraud

Irregularities, including fraud, are instances of non-compliance with laws and regulations. We design procedures in line with our responsibilities, outlined above, to detect irregularities, including fraud. The risk of not detecting a material misstatement due to fraud is higher than the risk of not detecting one resulting from error, as fraud may involve deliberate concealment by, for example, forgery or intentional misrepresentations, or through collusion. The extent to which our procedures are capable of detecting irregularities, including fraud, is detailed below. However, the primary responsibility for the prevention and detection of fraud rests with trustees of trust. Our approach was as follows:

- Enquiring with trust management to gain an understanding of the trust including constitution, activities, financial reporting and known fraud or error and corroborated the same through review of supporting documents and trust board meetings minutes, whether they were aware of any instances on non compliances with laws and regulations or whether they have knowledge of actual, suspected or alleged fraud;

- Assessing the susceptibility of risks of fraud particularly in relation to management override of controls and misappropriation of assets. In addressing the risk of fraud through management override of controls, tested the appropriateness of journal entries and other adjustments, assessed whether the judgements made in making accounting estimates are indicative of a potential bias, and evaluating the rationale of any significant transactions that are unusual or outside the normal course of the trust’s activities;

- Identification of Laws and regulations that are of significance in the context of the charity. The key laws and regulations we considered in this context included Charities Act 2011, The Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 and guidance issued by the Charities Commission for England and Wales. Further considering whether there were any indicators of noncompliance with constitution of trust, that could have a material effect on the financial statements;

- Enquiring with the trust management relating to compliance in relation to trust’s constitution and assessing whether there is any impact on the financial position of the trust;

- Communication of all relevant laws and regulations and fraud risks to all engagement team members and remained alert of any indications of fraud or non compliance with laws and regulations throughout the audit.

- The engagement partner assessed the engagement team’s collective competence and capabilities, considering relevant audit experience, engagement complexity, and sector knowledge.

Because of the inherent limitations of an audit, there is a risk that we will not detect all irregularities, including those leading to a material misstatement in the financial statements or non-compliance with regulations. This risk increases the more that compliance with a law or regulation is removed from the events and transactions reflected in the financial statements, as we will be less likely to become aware of instances of non-compliance. The risk is also greater regarding irregularities occurring due to fraud rather than error, as fraud involves intentional concealment, forgery, collusion, omission or misrepresentation.

A further description of our responsibilities for the audit of the financial statements is located on the Financial Reporting Council’s website at www.frc.org.uk/auditorsresponsibilities. This description forms part of our Report of the Independent Auditors.

## Use Of Our Report

This report is made solely to the charity's trustees, as a body, in accordance with Part 4 of the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008. Our audit work has been undertaken so that we might state to the charity's trustees those matters that we are required to state to them in an auditor's report and for no other purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we do not acce **p** t or assume responsibility to anyone other than the charity and the charity's trustees as a body, for our audit work, for **this report, or for** the opinions we have formed.

BEBE NANKI CHARITABLE TRUST (Registered Charity No: 508859) Notes to the Financial Statements For The Year Ended 31 December 2024

## 1. General Information

BEBE NANKI CHARITABLE TRUST is an unincorporated charity registered with the Charity Commission, registered charity number 508859. The principal address is 189 Rookery Road, Handsworth, Birmingham, B21 9PX.

## 2. Accounting Policies

## 2.1. Basis of Preparation of Financial Statements

The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with Charity’s Governing document and the Charities SORP (FRS 102) "Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)", Financial Reporting Standard 102 "The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland" and the Charities Act 2011.

The charity is a Public Benefit Entity as defined by FRS 102.

The financial statements are presented in Pounds Sterling (£), which is the functional and presentation currency of the charity. Monetary amounts included in the financial statements have been rounded to the nearest pound (£), unless otherwise stated.

The charity has taken advantage of the exemption in paragraph 14.1 of the Charities SORP (FRS 102) from preparing a statement of cash flows because its gross income does not exceed £500,000.

## 2.2. Going concern basis of accounting

The financial statements have been prepared on the assumption that the charity is able to continue as a going concern, which the trustees consider appropriate having regard to the current level of unrestricted reserves. There are no material uncertainties about the charity's ability to continue as a going concern.

## 2.3. Income

Income is recognized when the charity is legally entitled to it after any performance conditions have been met, the amounts can be measured reliably, and it is probable that income will be received.

Cash donations are recognized on receipt. Other donations are recognized once the charity has been notified of the donation, unless performance conditions require deferral of the amount.

## 2.4. Expenditure

Liabilities are recognized as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings, they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.

## 2.5. Tangible Fixed Assets and Depreciation

Tangible fixed assets are initially measured at cost and subsequently measured at cost or valuation, net of depreciation and any impairment losses.

Freehold Property 1% (Reducing Balance basis) Fixtures & Fittings 20% (Reducing Balance basis)

The gain or loss arising on the disposal of an asset is determined as the difference between the sale proceeds and the carrying value of the asset, and is recognized in the statement of financial activities.

## Impairment of fixed assets

At each reporting end date, the charity reviews the carrying amounts of its tangible assets to determine whether there is an indication that those assets have suffered an impairment loss. If any such indication exists, the recoverable amount of the asset is estimated in order to determine the extent of the impairment loss (if any).

## 2.6. Financial Instrument

The charity has elected to apply the provisions of section 11 'Basic Financial Instruments' and section 12 'other financial instruments issues' of FRS 102 to all of its financial instruments. Financial instruments are recognized in the charity's balance sheet when the charity becomes party to the contractual provisions of the instrument. Financial assets and liabilities are offset, with the net amounts presented in the financial statements, when there is a legally enforceable right to set off the recognized amounts and there is an intention to settle on a net basis or to realize the asset and settle the liability simultaneously.

Page 9

## BEBE NANKI CHARITABLE TRUST (Registered Charity No: 508859) Notes to the Financial Statements For The Year Ended 31 December 2024

## Basic Financial Assets

Basic financial assets, which include debtors and cash and bank balances, are initially measured at transaction price including transaction costs and are subsequently carried at amortized cost using the effective interest method unless the arrangement constitutes a financing transaction, where the transaction is measured at the present value of the future receipts discounted at a market rate interest. Financial assets classified as receivable within one year are not amortized.

## Basic Financial Liabilities

Basic financial liabilities, including creditors and bank loans are initially recognized at transaction price unless the arrangement constitutes a financing transaction, where the debt instrument is measured at the present value of the future payments discounted at a market rate of interest. Financial liabilities classified as payable within one year are not amortized. Debt instruments are subsequently carried at amortized cost, using the effective interest rate method.

Trade creditors are obligations to pay for goods or services that have been acquired in the ordinary course of operations from suppliers. Amounts payables are classified as current liabilities if payment is due within one year or less. If not, they are presented as non-current liabilities. Trade creditors are recognized initially at transaction price and subsequently measured at amortized cost using the effective interest method.

## Derecognition of financial liabilities

Financial liabilities are derecognized when the charity's contractual obligations expire or are discharged or cancelled.

## 2.7 Cash and Cash Equivalents

Cash and cash equivalents are basic financial assets and include cash in hand and deposits held at call with banks, other short-term highly liquid investments that mature in no more than three months from the date of acquisition and are readily convertible to a known amount of cash with insignificant risk of change in value, and bank overdrafts.

## 2.8 Fund Accounting

Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees. Designated funds comprise unrestricted funds that have been set aside by the trustees for a specific purpose. Restricted funds are to be used for specific purposes as laid down by the donor.

Further explanation of the nature and purpose of each fund is included in the notes to the financial statements.

## 2.9 Interest Expenses

Interest expense is typically recognized as an expense in the statement of financial activities when it accrues.

## 2.10 Taxation

The charity is exempt from tax as all its income is charitable and applied for charitable purposes

## 2.11 Critical Accounting Estimates and Judgements

In the application of the charity's accounting policies, the Trustees are required to make judgements, estimates and assumptions about the carrying amount of assets and liabilities that are not readily apparent from other sources. The estimates and associated assumptions are based on historical experience and other factors that are considered to be relevant. Actual results may differ from these estimates. The estimates and underlying assumptions are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Revisions to accounting estimates are recognized in the period in which the estimate is revised where the revision affects only that period, or in the period of the revision and future periods where the revision affects both the current and future periods.

## Provisions for Liabilities

Provisions are recognized when the Trust has a present legal or constructive obligation as a result of a past event, it is probable that an outflow of economic benefits will be required to settle the obligation, and a reliable estimate of the amount can be made. Provisions are measured at the best estimate of the expenditure required to settle the obligation at the reporting date, taking into account risks and uncertainties surrounding the obligation.
