Cash flow and summary for the year - 31.12.21 Current Account opening balance £17438.49 Plus – income £38,537.48 Minus Expenditure (£19,198.74) Closing Balance £36,777.23 Virgin Account opening balance £21,301.10 Interest 2021 £ 28.28 Balance £21,329.38 Chairman thanked Lisa for all her hard work and announced that she would be resigning as soon as we could find someone to take over from her. ## **DC’s Report** The year since the last AGM has been a journey of recovery, growth, new adventures and new faces. As we left the last AGM we were still very much in the grasp of the corona virus pandemic, numbers were down across the district, county and country. Covid had taken hold and we were at its mercy. We were still running sessions online and very much aware we had a long way to go. February rolled into March and April. All sections trying to remain as active as possible. Sadly, we were unable to have a St Georges day parade and service again which also was followed by being unable to have the district Scout camp in May. But as we have throughout this pandemic, we overcame and still had fun, with another virtual camp packed with online activities and a live campfire broadcast from the fire pit on the campsite. Scouts logging in online and having lots of fun. This seemed to be a theme that ran across the district right through the pandemic. Even now, even though we could meet in person we find ourselves online to protect vulnerable people linked to the district. We are all very aware the corona virus threat is far from over; we are all acting with great care and supporting each other. As 2021 rolled on restrictions began to lift and we were back to meeting with our young people, outdoors, then indoors in small groups which often led to sections splitting over 2 sessions and our amazing team of leaders and supporters giving up even more free time to give their all to Scouting. Very quickly summer came, and we found we could do the one thing we all had the itch to do... camping! Nan forms were coming in and you were out giving our young people amazing opportunities, adventures and memories. Reports coming in all the time of new members joining your sections. The pandemic continued to throw us curve balls and as I expected you overcame and continued to be brilliant. In October we took part in the national “head count” of Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorer Scouts. This showed us we were back well and truly and growing rapidly. This was a huge boost to us all. Soon after this head count, omicron hit us and we were finding ourselves closing for odd sessions, back in restrictions and online. This definitely impacted on us, as became evident in the January 2022 census of membership. We had lost 51 young people since October 2021. This in part to new members not returning, young people moving on or away or lost members. While this was sad, we need to look at the positives. We have in the district, as of January 31st 2022 § 183 adult volunteers a growth of 8% on the previous year § 517 Young People, a growth of 48% on the previous year. This is also the most young people in the district recorded on a annual census. We have nothing to be disappointed about at all. 700 people in the district, growth census on census, amazing people, amazing volunteers and a lot of fantastic adventures ahead. Since we have been back to face to face Scouting all sections have had a lot of fun and have been Scouting! I’ve seen badge presentations, camps, happy faces, new faces, training and a lot of first class programs. We have a lot to look forward too as we move forward and into the year. Poacher 2022 in almost here. A great chance for us to enjoy Lincolnshire’s International jamboree. The Beavers and cubs have the junior poacher taster days also. We have St Georges day arranged and are looking forward to being able to parade for the first time in a couple of years. District camps for all sections and many more exciting events and activities. As we were unable to hold the annual Carol service last Christmas we were unable to present, awards. I have a few to get out which I’d like to read out later on. Two of which I presented last night at 6th Boston. All that is left for me to say now is Thank you. Thank you to all of you that have continued scouting through very difficult times, thank you to the parents and young people for sticking with us and keeping Boston District alive. Thank you to all members of executive committees for maintaining your groups and supporting them. Lastly, thank you to my supportive and ever ready team of committee members, commissioners and GSLs Let’s move forward and make 2022 the best yet. Steve thanked Rob and all leaders for all their hard work over a difficult year. ## **YC Report** I would firstly like to begin with an apology for not being able attend this evening! So to start, some information about me in regard to taking this role, I have attended a presentation given by Ellie, the County Youth Commissioner where she went through the YouShape award with DYC’s from across the county. In March, I will be attending a DYC training weekend to develop skills and learn from experiences of the other DYC’s. At the beginning of November, I launched the YouShape award to the district and will be promoting this again in the coming weeks. It would be excellent if we could have young people within our district achieving this award by Christmas, and I would like to extend an offer to assist groups in planning activities to help your members to achieve this! Please also share any success stories with myself and/or the district via our photopage. An aim for the next few months is to get Boston Youth Forum back up and running, so that we can better embed youth-shaped scouting into our district. Again please feel free to get in touch with me, my email is dyc@bostonscouts.org.uk. ## **Woodhall Report** Over the past year, there wasn’t much camping due to the on-going pandemic. A few camps took place but not nearly as many as usual. 2022 bookings are looking healthy with 14 camps booked so far. The cabin roof was replaced, and Sam has filled in the eves on both buildings. The footbridge was removed, filled with ballast and concreted over. Roy Chapman and Keith Elderfield helped with removal and ballast laying and shutter building. Concrete was free thanks to Breedon Ready Mix, and they also helped lay it. The flail continues to work well and has had some wheel repairs and new tyres. 24 larger signs were purchased and placed all around the site regarding it being private property. Having spoken to a couple of the people who were walking on the site, it appears that they were given directions from Bainland who told them it was a public route. UPCOMING MAINTENANCE: Solar panels have been purchased and will be installed very soon along with some extra lights in the toilet block and new lights in the cabin. Some more trees have been felled behind the cabin and on the toilet corner. Keith is going to look at the cabin regarding an internal repaint as its beginning to look untidy and there is a part above the sink that is turning black. Rob is organising someone to look at the cooker to see if it can be cleaned so it burns better rather than replacing the cooker. ## **BANG Report** The system is there to support any young person that has problems in order that they can gain most from the section **.** Date of visit Known Group & section Young Person conditions 20.01.2020 3rd Scouts JF, year 7 ADHD ## Verbal report from leaders Observation of Leaders ## Positive When asked to fall in he was given time to process the information before joining the others and was praised when he did fall in. JF had necker over mouth [cowboy style]and ask a question, leaders ask him to remove necker whilst talking and was allowed to replace it afterwards ## Negative One leader is with JF during activities, JF may see this as being singled out or being special. There may be occasions when JF's questions are inappropriate and therefore not ## Plan of action 1. Ask that Scouts do not arrive early, e.g. 6.55 to start at 7pm 2. Ask that any questions be directed to Leader only at end of flag break 3. Visual timetable or verbally now and next given 4. Let JF have his sensory needs met, e.g. grass/ stick if not be used as weapon etc - 5.Allow JF to choose game at the end of the evening if all has gone well - 6.remember he will take longer to process information Approval of the DC’s nomination for Chairman Rob nominated Steve Elwood as chairman for another year. Steve agreed to do the job Election of District Secretary As there were no other nominations Beth agreed to continue in the role Election of District Treasurer Confirmation of the District Executive committee Exec voted back on: Norma Daft Sue Chester MaryThompson Dave Richardson Chris Keane Sue Morrison Steve thanked the exec for supporting him. Appointment of auditor All agree Stuart Dunlop to be ask for next year. Any other business, by permission of the Chairman Malcolm Moore, DCC Lincs, County Rep Malcolm thanked everybody for that they do for the young people. He was sorry that we haven’t got an LTM as he thought all Districts had one. All adult support should keep a check on their training. OSM is to be the official youth database.
