**Objects:** THE SOCIETY IS ESTABLISHED FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT FOR THE FOLLOWING PURPOSES IN THE AREA COMPRISING THE URBAN AREA OF SHREWSBURY AS DEFINED IN THE BOROUGH COUNCIL'S LOCAL PLAN, WHICH AREA SHALL HEREINAFTER BE REFERRED TO AS THE "AREA OF BENEFIT" 1. TO PROMOTE HIGH STANDARDS OF PLANNING AND ARCHITECTURE IN OR AFFECTING THE AREA OF BENEFIT 2. TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC IN THE GEOGRAPHY, HISTORY, NATURAL HISTORY AND ARCHITECTURE OF THE AREA OF BENEFIT 3. TO SECURE THE PRESERVATION, PROTECTION, DEVELOPMENT AND IMPROVEMENT OF FEATURES OF HISTORIC OR PUBLIC INTEREST IN THE AREA OF BENEFIT

**Activities:** The society monitors & responds to planning applications within the borough of Shrewsbury, encouraging high standards of design, architecture & town planning whilst ensuring the preservation & maintenance of the historic town fabric.The society organises lectures, exhibitions, heritage open days and an international cartoon festival to stimulate public interest and to ensure an end use for history
