Chairman’s Report:
At last years AGM (May 2022) the Chairman reported that following the decline in the impact of COVID it was hoped that the running of the Hall and the work of the Management Committee and the Trustees would return to something like normal.
However by July 2022, the Committee were finalising discussions relating to the huge increase in utility charges which had the potential to cause severe strain on the running cost and that of our regular users. The Committee were therefore very conscious of the need to ensure that our regular users in particular were not unduly penalised by the increases and the Committee were able to do this by using part of reserves and a proportionate increase for regular users. The treasurer will give more details but this process has been effective and has not caused any undue strain on our reserves. This however, is an ongoing issue which the Committee will have to re-visit during the coming year to ensure effective management of reserves.
The Hall continues to be used on a regular basis by a variety of groups providing an important resource for the village and beyond.
This in itself presents challenges in keeping the Hall clean and tidy. The majority of users play their part but occasionally the rooms have been left untidy which creates difficulties for other users. This will be raised at the regular meetings to see how the situation can be improved.
There are also the additional issues relating to the long term upkeep of the fabric of the building, in particular the state of the Hall floor and walls. Discussions have commenced in recent months to address these issues and will be an important feature on the regular Management Committee meetings.
There is a further major issue that is likely to require careful attention of the Committee in the coming year and relates to the progression through Parliament of what is known as Martyn’s Law designed to improve security and preparedness of venues that are open to the public.
On a more positive note the Management Committee were able to commemorate Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee by the planting of a tree in September 2022.
In closing, the Chairman placed on record his thanks to the Committee for their continued support and in particular those who hold office on behalf of the Committee, the Secretary, the Treasurer, the Maintenance Officer and Minute Secretary.
Treasurer’s Report: The accounts were circulated. Bill Alston had audited the accounts. The past year, overall income and been more than outgoings. We have had work completed on the Hall over the past year, receiving grants helping towards the cost, for which we are grateful. In June 2022 the Gas prices increased, in September 2022 the Electric prices increased, and in October 2022 we increased Hall hire charge keeping us on average stable. Still monitoring the whole of the utility charges. John proposed accepting the accounts, Margaret seconded. The accounts were approved unanimously. A copy of the accounts will be sent to Parish Council. Letter of thanks to Bill. Many thanks to Julie.
Review of hire charges
In view of the Treasurer’s Report, Bernard proposed to leave hire charges as they are. This will be reviewed. Committee agreed.
