Beaver Scout Report September 2020 to July 2021 This year has been like no other as we did not meet face to face except in the car park in December 2020 to hand out medals and certificates that should have been given out at the AGM in July 2020. We have met every. fortnight via zoom, and l 'OUld like to thank the few Beaver scouts and their parents t-or taking part, as the majority only wanted face to face meelingss, A BIG"I'HANK YOU. During this time we took part in Rememberance Sunday, St Georges Day, and did a one night camp over zoom. We a150 managyed to still complete plenty of badges. I realize that this is a short report, but we were unable to do any trips out due to covid 19. I would still like to thank the following people especially Shelley Tod our Group Scout Leader who 80rted out the zoom conneclion for me. I would also like to thank, Michelle Littlemore, Kerry Mclellan. Liz Waine. Chloe Spencer, Karen Blantorne, and Lisa Spencer.

Pack Report 2020-21
Summer Term 2020
As Covid restrictions continued to challenge our Scouting experiences, The Scout Association bought Zoom licences for all Groups so that we could offer an alternative way of delivering our Scouting programme. We embraced this new technology so that we could continue to offer Cub meetings to the Cubs. Some of the Cubs were already used to Zoom lessons for school, so were teaching the leaders some of the skills as we went along you never stop learning!! Some Cubs did not want Zoom meetings, so did the activities at home instead. Some just wanted to wait until we were back face-toface.
Whilst we were finding our feet on Zoom, we completed crafts and art projects such as nature windows and a 3D hand. We had a transport theme for one of the evenings, culminating in making blow rockets, which once Cubs had worked out how to make them, were lots of fun to use! All links and activities continued to be published on the Facebook page for those wanting to complete them away from the screen.
One of the highlights was the evening completing Personal challenges. Cubs had to come and teach us a new skill and there we paper aeroplanes and making a cup of hot chocolate, making a cup of tea, making a milkshake and a piece of toast! Kind of get the feeling our Cubs like their food and drinks!!
We ended the term with a virtual Pirate Day. Cubs dressed up as pirates and made their own Pirate name. Then we had an evening of Pirate activities all completed over Zoom and again, receiving a lovely badge for their efforts.
Autumn Term 2020
During the Autumn term, our meetings were themed around books Reader badge as a Pack, but the technology enabled us to use different resources, particularly online games and activities to make the learning more interesting and fun. Of course, we had to include the obligatory food activity becoming a tradition amongst our themed meetings now! The topic ended with a Zoom call from Con Burdekin, an author who worked with us to create a Pack poem and a very interesting and fun night was had by everyone.
Remembrance Day was held on our doorsteps as all parades were cancelled. Cubs made poppies and poppy wreaths in the zoom meeting and we looked at the meaning behind the different coloured poppies. Again, the use of online resources was invaluable for this session.
We wanted to continue our typical Scouting activities so we covered Country Code, knots and pioneering before Christmas. This was very challenging for us, as we are so used to demonstrating and being to help Cubs with the knots and pioneering particularly and being on Zoom, this proved to be much more difficult and frustrating for us.
For our Christmas ! Another edible activity going down a treat!
Due to some restrictions being lifted, we were able to plan a Face-to-Face activity day at the hut. It was fabulous to see the Cubs in person and we even managed to do some socially-distanced investitures. We spent a cold December day in the garden making fires and cooking, with a bit of a sing song and a small amount of normality for a couple of hours with each group.
We ended the term with another visiting speaker on Zoom, this time a Forensics Experience with Hayley Scott who used to work for the Metropolitan Police. It was very interesting and, again, good use of technology, which we would usually not have access to.
Spring Term 2021
We started the new term back on Zoom looking at Road Safety. We used online videos and games to look at safer places to cross the road and recognising road signs. We also researched different crossings and learned some new ones
We had a week looking at Chinese New Year then we moved onto a new theme of Astronomy. Of course
Once again, the use of the Internet and video clips proved to be invaluable, particularly as the week after we started, was the same week that the rover Perseverance was landing on Mars. We were able to discuss so much more with the Cubs when we could share images and videos onto their screens. This - based.
Another new activity which we tried was Step-by-step painting. We found a simple picture with video instructions and we followed along, each with our own set of equipment. We were able to pause the video whenever we needed to so that everyone could complete that step. A 30 minute instruction video actually took use 3 weeks to complete, but all the pictures were amazing at the end and all Cubs appeared to be proud of their work Leaders were definitely proud of them!
In March, we went all-out for a Knights and Castle themed Camp-at-Home. Another round of equipment drops and a weekend full of challenges and activities some online via Zoom and some offline. We had the most amazing time and, once again, the squires to our Cub Knights (aka parents) pulled out all the stops in their assistance. I am sure they slept well that weekend it was a busy one!
The day after Camp was our final meeting before Easter We made Easter egg rocky road
The last activity of the term was . This year, St Helens District posted activities and challenges via the District website for Cubs to access at home with their families. It culminated in a live campfire streamed from District Headquarters. We also met via Zoom as a Group to renew our promises. It was really lovely to see so many from the different sections on the screen together.
2020/21 has been a year like no other in Scouting. We have been able to embrace the Zoom meetings and use the technology to enhance what we normally do in the hut. We have been able to show video attempt. It has been an amazing opportunity to be able to continue developing Scouting activities and
showing how we can adapt, sometimes in very quick turnaround times, when situations have demanded it.
Once again, I need to express my huge thanks to Chloe for her continued support this year and particularly to Shelley who has been a constant ally as we navigated Zoom sessions together sometimes single-handedly as my Internet wifi was so unstable! We have learned together and found new ways of teaching and presenting activities to the Cubs and I have really enjoyed this new way of working although looking forward to seeing them all in person once more.
Finally, I need to thank the Cubs and their parents for their resilience and patience as we learned a As stated earlier, the parents have had to become Leaders in their own right at times, as they supported the Cubs through some tricky and challenging activities. Thank you so much.

- Scouts Report 2019 20
It is our 5[th] year of Scouting at Blackbrook and it has been another memorable and exciting year of scouting. This year our Scouts have enjoyed a varied programme, interesting camps and many District competitions and events. We took the decision this year to reduce the numbers of events we took part in as we focused on fundraising and planning for our upcoming trip to Kandersteg International Scout Centre (KISC) in Switzerland.
In April we took part in the St Helens District St Georges Fun Day- it was a tad damp and windy but despite this our scouts did enjoy archery, tomahawk throwing and a rather wet, slippery slide. We also had several of our Scouts performing in the St Helens Gangshow at the Theatre Royal, so we went along to show our support, they were all brilliant and put on an excellent show again.
In May we did a hike from the Scout hut up to Bispham Hall. The Scouts walked in small teams and navigated themselves for this event. We did have some strategically place checkpoints and lots of challenges for them to complete en-route. Our accommodation for the evening was a Laavu, very peaceful and lovely to be able to see the stars while tucked up in sleeping bags.
We also enjoyed a weekend stay at Kingswood Colomendy where the Scouts had the opportunity to take part in many exciting and exhilarating activities. It was a brilliant weekend enjoyed by everyone (and we even had a sneaky Maccies for supper)
In June, we competed in the St Helens District Com our Countries this year were Germany & Mozambique. Our Scouts performed brilliantly winning both the cooking and presentation sections of the competition.
Throughout the year we had a lot of fundraising events for our KISC (Kandersteg) trip. Our Scouts showed dedication and motivation throughout- we enjoyed events such as Darkstar Laser Tag nights, Quiz nights as well as sponsored hikes and many, many bag packs
July saw the return of the muchscouts particularly enjoy. We held this event at Bowley Scout Activity Centre, a new site that we have never visited before and we disappointed. The scouts had the opportunity to try out clay pigeon shooting which was a lot of fun along with sleeping in hammocks.
August was our much-anticipated Swiss trip to KISC. We had 16 young
amazing experience this was for everyone involved. We hiked to the most beautiful lakes, went river rafting, attended an International campfire, went to the local pool, had a ride in a cable car and even fitted in crazy golf. All the young people behaved exemplary as you can imagine trying to navigate 20 people through airports and Swizz train stations is no easy task. Thank you to everyone who came on the trip it was certainly a fabulous experience and the memories will certainly be treasured forever.
In September, we competed in District Lord Derby Competition, another fabulous performance by our teams despite torrential rain and freezing conditions.
In October we attended The Chariot Race, of course we went all out for the fancy dress part of the competition with our Grease Lightening chariot and racers. All the effort was worthwhile with our team winning Chariot of Chariots- well done everyone involved.
In December we arranged for winter camp- we did stay in luxury at it was a fab weekend. We took part in the local lantern parade and Christmas lights switch on, ner. We also had lots of movies and games. The ice made the place look beautiful and Christmassy (but it was a tad chilly)
Our last event was in February, the Equinox competition, this combines orienteering with manhunt and our teams did extremely well securing 2[nd] and 3[rd] place.
Our scouting did come to an abrupt stop in March due to the pandemic but we are finding new ways to scout, stay in touch, provide great activities and still earn badges. (I can t wait to get back to our usual Wednesday nights)
It has been successful year and I feel extremely proud of everything our Troop has achieved. Thank you to Shelley, Lee, and Jane for all their help organising and running events and to our young leaders James, Katie and Kian. Finally, thank you to all our Scouts and for your continued passion for scouting, without you our Troop would not be the success that it is.
Here s to another year of adventure!!!
