## **Annual Report for Financial Year 1/4/2020 to 31/3/2021**

## **Report from the Committee Chair**

The normal activities in the Hall have had to be cancelled early in the year due to the restrictions imposed by the Welsh Government to minimise the effect of the Corona Virus. These restrictions remained in place throughout the year. Because of these restrictions, there has been none of the normal income from weekly badminton, fortnightly Whist Drives or monthly meetings of the Women’s Institute, or the Senior Citizen Group (Evergreens) or the Honddu Ladies Group or the Young Farmers and none of the normal major fundraising events (Harvest Supper, Quiz Night, Curry Night, Young Farmers Concert, etc) were organised. The minor income recorded for Hall hire resulted from hire fees carried over from the previous year.

Because the Hall was unused during the year, some of the utility costs were reduced but heating was maintained during cold weather to prevent pipes from freezing and to prevent condensation. The Hall was inspected every week by a committee member who checked on security, for water leaks and for animal (mice) damage. This inspection had been requested by the Hall’s insurance company. The Committee thanked the member for her work throughout the year.

The lack of activity in the Hall meant that there were no restrictions on access for builders who were able to continue the replacement of the entire slate roof of the Hall. This work was made possible by a substantial grant from the Lottery Fund (£38,760). As part of the replacement work, the insulation in the roof of the main hall was replaced and there has been a noticeable improvement in temperature achievable in the Hall.

The Hall was able to apply for grants from Powys County Council to offset the loss of income due to the COVID restrictions and in total these grants amounted to £23,000.

The Hall also benefited from grants from the Community Council amounting to £1,800. These grants resulted in an increase in Hall reverses of over £18,000. The Hall Committee expressed their gratitude to Powys County County and the Community Council for these grants which have been identified to fund the refurbishment of the Hall kitchen. A new cooker has been purchased for this project and the building, electrical, reflooring and repainting work is scheduled to start early in the next financial year.

## **Report from the Committee Secretary**

The Hall Management Committee organised remote (Zoom) meetings during the year to review progress on the replacement of the roof and to develop plans for the refurbishment of the kitchen. This arrangement had led to difficulties for some committee members who were not equipped with a computer and arrangements were made to keep these members informed with paper copies of minutes of meetings.

## **Report from the Treasurer**

The Treasurer reported that the Hall current account was still holding £996 which was earmarked for the provision of a defibrillator. No progress had been made during the year on this project. He also pointed out that the money in the Hall investment account had gained very little in interest but with current bank rates, no alternative investment had been identified.
