61 Air Scout Group Report 2023/2024 I must thank every section leaderfortheir continuing commitment, They have been working hard over the past few years rebuilding our group, it has been a challenge to then maintain what we have achieved. The 61st Exec committee have been exceptional, responding to the challenges set by a successful scout group, we would be in a poor position without them. My thanks in particulargo to Vanessa, Karen and Mick who have steered the group in the right direction through the past year. The section reports only scratch the surface when describing the number of exciting activities that all section5 are providing to our members. Every section has managed to have multlple overnight camps and residentials, alone and working with other sections of the group. Our beaver section has once again provided the first steps in scouting at the 61st. They don't shy away from giving the Beavers tough challenges while having lots of fun. The cub section adds a new dimension to the 5COUting journey with greatfocus on learning and discovery, which shows with theirvaried meeting content. It is difficult to find new experiences for the members who have come through the Beaver and Cub sections, but Air Scout section manages to achieve this. Developing the skills and values learned in the junior sections, expanding the air scouts, knowledge and experience, giving them more autonomy. Yet again, it has been difficult to secure flying experience for the members. Due to the hard economic climate and the cuts that the RAF and other establishments are having. We tried address this but although getting good prices in the market they are still beyond the reach of our membership. Atlas Explorers, part of the 61st family, have increased their numbers and provlde great support at the sections with young leaders helping at all settions. Atlas are looking for leaders with a sense of adventure to help expand their activities and experiences, please see Mowgli if interested. Last year I reported on the amount of investment of tlme and money that was being put into the maintenance of the Scout Hall and that we had applied for a grant to replace the scout hall. Well, it isn't a secret anymore we were awarded a full grant to demolish and replace the hall. This meant that in February we left the hall after ourfinal meeting5 there in the January and were to begin using our temporary base at The Hub Town End Bentley. Thls was delayed by 4 weeks due issues at the Hall. We Instead used the St Peterfs Church which was a good last-minute rescue. Thanks to Dave Berry for arranging the venue. The new buildlng process for application and Implementation is masslve and wlthout Mlck, Karen and Vanessa we would not be in this fantastic position. l am looking forward to reporting the build and holding our next AGM in a brand spanking new building. Big thanks to you for doing what you dol The minibus has been well used by the Sections at the 61st and we have had more bookings through 2023-24Thank you to Michael for maintaining the vehicle and to those who have looked after the minibus at their home address. It was our 70th Birthday year and we celebrated with a group activity at Aeroventure, with all sections taking part and a fantastic cake was made for the event, many thanks to Tash, it was delicious. We finished the year off with 'Scoutmas' at Squirrel Wood a great festive weekend 24th - 26th November. Yes, Christmas wis i montl early. It was great with snow. SaDta and seasonal fayre. A massive thanks to Dragon for taking the concept and rnaking it a reallty for the member5 who took part. I'm ever 60 proud to be 61st, 2023124 has seen some of the best s¢outlng In the country by a mile, wltb our new building on the way and lots of activities plgnTJed for 2024125 it's 80iri8 tp be even better. I would like to finish by thanking everyone who contrlbutes to keep the 61st SCOUtin8 experience he best for the youth of Bentley and Arksey (and further afield). Manythanks John Green Group Scout Leader
