Wesley. **Bankers:** TSB, PO Box 373, Headingley Branch, Leeds LS14 9GQ **Independent Examiner:** SKS Bailey Group Ltd, 19 The Grove, Ilkley LS29 9LS **Objects:** “The objectives of the Club shall be to educate the public in the arts and sciences, and in particular the art and science of music, by the presentation of concerts and other activities” **Organisation:** The Club’s concerts are held within the King’s Hall complex, Station Road, Ilkley, and are widely advertised. All the organisers volunteer their services. **Financial Reserves:** The Piano and Development Fund is considered a Designated Fund. Non-designated funds should not normally exceed planned expenditure. **Activities:** In the season 2023/24 we presented a full season of eight concerts which included a return for the virtuoso brass consort Septura, a piano recital from the much sought after Benjamin Grosvenor and well-received string performances from the Piatti and Maxwell quartets and the violist Hélène Clément. For the third time we presented a short series of afternoon concerts, highlighting performances by students from the Royal Northern College of Music which were well attended. We also supported the ongoing Waterman series of piano recitals and master classes. The Committee has met on three occasions this year, and sub-committees have met as appropriate. ## **Chair’s Report** The 2023/24 season contained a particularly well-balanced programme of concerts including two not often heard string sextets, the return of a few favourites such as Septura Brass Ensemble, a debut in Ilkley for mezzo soprano Kitty Whately and the young up and coming Lumas Winds. The series featured first ICC performances of works by Tchaikovsky and concluded with the piano duo Katya Apekisheva and Charles Owen who included four movements from Holst’s Planets, adapted for piano duo to celebrate Holst’s 150th birthday! We continue to be grateful to all our artists. We continue to benefit from a close relationship with the staff of the King’s Hall who respond sympathetically to our requests and do their best to support us in bringing firstclass music to Ilkley. We owe them a debt of gratitude. At the end of this year we are saying goodbye to another long-standing member of our committee who has decided that the time to step down has come. Jennie Rundle was for many years the public face of the Concert Club in that it was her contact details to which people were directed if they wanted to buy tickets for a single concert. Those at the ticket office on the night were often asked if they were Jennie because the enquirer wanted to thank her for going out of her way to provide them with the right tickets! We too want to thank her for adding that personal touch to the Club over the years. committee considers to be sound. Cu , Sea _Chris Skidmore, August 2024_ ## **Honorary Secretary’s Report** I would like to thank my colleagues on the Committee for their support this year as I have been learning the role. It’s been fascinating to follow the development of the next season’s series and to be part of the negotiations which bring world class performers to the King’s Hall for regular concerts, whilst maintaining competitive ticket prices for the series. The King’s Hall presents a full programme of events through the year. We’re proud to be an established part of this schedule and we appreciate the work of the King’s Hall team to fit everyone in and to make sure that events run smoothly. We held three Committee Meetings in 2023-24 and now store master copies of these papers on a shared Google Drive, as well as publishing them on our web site. _Jo Simpson, July 2024_ ## **Honorary Treasurer’s Report** I am pleased to report that the club finances remain strong. This year has seen our income levels remain stable, with a large increase in donations, due in part to a legacy of £1,000 having been received. Following the additional expenditure on artists fees in 2023, the spend in 2024 has been nearer historical levels. In addition, the hire costs of Kings Hall have been lower than expected. All other costs have been largely similar to the previous year. The surplus made in the year has enabled us to transfer £4,000 to the Piano Development Fund and give us the ability to be flexible in our future programming. Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner As the charity's trustees you are responsible for the preparation of accounts: you consider that the audit requirement of Section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (The Act) does not apply. It is my responsibility to state, on the basis of procedures specified in the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners under Section 145(5)(b) of the Act, whether particular matters have come to my attention. Basis of independent examiner's report My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts. Independent examinerfs statement In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention: Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 130 of the Act, and to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records, and to comply with the accounting requirements of the Act have not been met, or To which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached. These financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention and in accordance with applicable accounting standards and the statement of Recommended Practice on Accounting by Charities. st Investments: Investments are stated at market value as at the 31 May 2024. Any unrealised profit or loss has been taken to the income account. Piano and Develo ment Fund In the year ended 31st May 2008 the Club entered into an agreement with Bradford Council for the use of a new Steinway piano for which it made a payment of £7,000. In the year ended 31st May 2010 the Club made a further payment of £2,000. Under the agreement the club will make a 50Yo contribution towards the maintenance expenditure to be incurred in future years on the piano. The fund is available for that expenditure or such other expenditure as the committee may in future decide.
