**Objects:** “The objectives of the Club shall be to educate the public in the arts and sciences, and in particular the art and science of music, by the presentation of concerts and other activities”
**Organisation:** The Club’s concerts are held within the King’s Hall complex, Station Road, Ilkley, and are widely advertised. All the organisers volunteer their services. **Financial Reserves:** The Piano and Development Fund is considered a Designated Fund. Non-designated funds should not normally exceed planned expenditure. **Activities:** In a return to post-pandemic normality, the Club mounted a full season of eight concerts this year. These included a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Brodsky Quartet, a rare two-piano recital to celebrate the Rachmaninov anniversary and a much-enjoyed first appearance of the London Tango Quartet. For the first time in many years we held a workshop in association with the visit of the Voces8 group which was attended by singers from across the north. We also repeated the short series of afternoon concerts, highlighting performances by students from the Royal Northern College of Music which were well attended.
The Committee has met three times this year, and sub-committees have met as appropriate to discuss issues important to the Club.
## **Chair’s Report**
The 2022/23 season was among the most memorable of recent years with a wealth and variety of musical styles and first-class performances from our talented visiting artists. Among the most worthy of note was that in February where the illness of one member of a string trio caused the other two players to devise and rehearse a duo programme from scratch in less than 5 hours. This is just one outstanding example of the dedication and flexibility of today’s musicians: we are grateful to all our artists.
This is also a good point to thank the staff of the King’s Hall for their continuing willingness to respond to our requests and to support us in bringing first-class music to
Ilkley. We owe them too a debt of gratitude.
At the end of this year as well as saying farewell to our secretary, David Halpin, we are losing two long-standing members of our committee who have decided that the time to step down has come. Tony Hudson has been a member of the committee since 1993 and is best known to members for his tireless work in running the CD stall which contributes to our finances but his work has been much wider than that – in recent years he has been a valuable link with the Friends of the King’s Hall. Sarah Warnes has been a vital member of our concert programme organisation for many years, offering her wide knowledge of pianists and the piano repertoire and her experience of running her own smaller-scale festival. She and her late husband Richard were also for many years the designers of our concert programmes. We shall miss both Sarah and Tony and we thank them for all their work on the club’s behalf.

## **Honorary Secretary’s Report**
I’ve been nominated to take over as Honorary Secretary in this coming season. Over the past year I have shadowed David Halpin in the role and I would like to thank him for providing this helpful handover. He has served the Ilkley Concert Club for five seasons, all of which I’ve enjoyed as a member. Now I am beginning to learn what goes on behind the scenes to make that happen.
I know I am not alone in being grateful to be able to attend live concerts in my own town and I look forward to supporting the Committee as it continues to provide an annual programme of wonderful music.

## **Honorary Treasurer’s Report**
The year to 31st May 2023 saw a return to normal operations.
Overall, the club made a deficit of £3,707 for the year, which was in line with our budget and reflected the staging of some concerts that were originally planned for our 75th anniversary season. We did not have a fully subscribed season, however, the level of single ticket sales compensated for the loss in subscription income.
The year also saw a rise in some of our costs most notably the cost of using the King’s Hall and these costs will be higher still in the next year.
However, our financial situation is still sound and as a consequence we feel confident of being able to maintain the high standards we set ourselves.

## _**Notes to the Accounts: Year ended 31st May 2023**_
## _**1. Accounting Policies**_
_**General:**_ Ilkley Concert Club is a Registered Charity (506886). These financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention and in accordance with applicable accounting standards and the Statement of Recommended Practice on Accounting by Charities.
_**Investments:**_ Investments are stated at market value as at the 31st May 2023.
## _**2. Piano and Development Fund**_
In the year ended 31st May 2008 the Club entered into an agreement with Bradford Council for the use of a new Steinway piano for which it made a payment of £7,000. In the year ended 31st May 2010 the Club made a further payment of £2,000. Under the agreement the club will make a 50% contribution towards the maintenance expenditure to be incurred in future years on the piano. The fund is available for that expenditure or such other expenditure as the committee may in future decide.
