Independent examiner’s report to the trustees of Middleton St George Community Association
I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Middleton St George Community Association for the year ended 31 December 2024.
Independent examiner's statement
I have completed my examination and can confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

Accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section 130 of the Charities Act 2011.

The accounts do not accord with those records.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

MSGCA AGM 8th[th] February 2025 at 2pm Chairmans report.
It has been another great year for getting things done.
Our Events Team led by, Marion and Maria had a cracking year arranging events starting with an organised litter pick on 13[th] April. This was followed by the Summer Extravaganza on Saturday 17[th] August (around 700 people attended). Characters like Spider Man and Cinderella entertained so many children and adults alike. We had some 30 odd stall holders and the Mayor of Darlington and his wife opened the event for us.
The next event Maria and Marion put on was the Magic & Sparkle event in November. Sadly, the weather was not as kind as in previous years. However, that did not deter the Events Team or the trustees as we managed to cram everything inside this hall, with an overworked Father Christmas, (thanks to Alex and his Elf, Angela )We had several
stall holders inside and a craft session by the MSG Nursery. The Christmas tree lights were lit up and assisted this year with 2 new colour strobe lights. And the grand finale last month, the January Pantomime. Sleeping Beauty & the Beast. It was very well attended with many, many lovely comments and emails praising the trustees and volunteers for all their help to make it happen. My thanks to you all but especially Marion and Maria.
Meet & Eat continues to flourish, started in 2020 which was a free meal and get together programme to get people out of their homes to meet each other. (following Covid) It has been growing ever since with the December Christmas event held here for nearly 80 people. We had catering provided by Jonathan from the Devonport and his team. They provided turkey with all the trimmings followed by mince pies and cream. However, as is customary, Christmas presents followed and had been arranged this year by Louise and her daughter Keris which
had all been collected by our local store, Dunelm. My thanks to all those that had helped and for those that made it an excellent day with many comments of praise and hard work by the trustees. It is all free and a popular event for so many. The next one is on Friday 21[st] February here in the community centre.
We held a number of successful Car Boot Fairs organised by the Events Team and supported in the kitchen by Angela, Anna and Deborah, with ground support from Maria & Marion.
The CAGS (Community Activity Groups) are still running which allows for 2 hours each week in the main hall to be used for an art group, with spaces for knitting , sewing and a space for one other group to attend. And then on a Thursday, late afternoon, a free exercise group for up to 12 children run by Sean (Turn to Sport). He ran this activity during the year on a Thursday evening. the Our new car park has been a tremendous help this year and the
grasscrete surface has settled down nicely but Ashcourt our contractor have been overseeing minor adjustments and supervised by our trustee Deborah.
This year we start the extension process with planning for a larger activity space to the side of the existing meeting room. This should give us an additional activity area at almost the size of this hall. Like any well run building and especially one that started as a pumping station in 1950 and then became the village hall in 1980, we have had a couple of items to deal with, water leaking from the roof into the meeting room followed by a heating problem with our remote controller. However, with the determination and resolve of our trustees, we over came. Inconvenient yes but resolved quickly. My thanks to Matthew for sorting the roof and our electrician, Sean getting the heating back under control and installing new Christmas lights. The Nursery once again sprang a leak but was quickly sorted out by Peter and Paul his builder
friend. They also installed a new sign at the front of the grounds.
That almost wraps my Chairmans report up but for me to say that without our trustees, Angela, Louise, Marion, Maria, Deborah, Anna and newly appointed Paul, it could not have been done without you! My thanks also to those wonderful volunteers. A special mention to Susan who lives over in Middleton Hall and almost every day she is out litter picking along with Shiela and Rick they and many other of our members do this quietly and without fuss. So, my thanks to you Susan, Shiela & Rick and all those of you trying to keep our village clean.
