260[th] Birmingham Scout Group Annual Report
01/04/2020 – 31/03/2021
260[th] Scout Group was closed due to the Covid 19 Pandemic on 17[th] March 2020 and did not reopen until July 2021.
We had a very strong group of volunteer leaders and of young people aged between 6 and 14 years before the pandemic struck.
We are based in a recognised deprived area of Birmingham so the option for the young people to continue Scouting remotely was not feasible. We felt it was not fair to those who had no access to the internet as they would miss out on the activities that those who did have access could do.
We sent activity packs out to the children during this time, but it was met with differing interest.
When we were told we could reopen we concentrated on getting the building safe for everyone to return, including our other service users. We spent a few months making sure it was safe to use.
We still had to pay for the electric, gas, water, insurance, servicing of alarm and CCTV plus all the related bills associated with a business. Plus we had to do any maintenance required as the building was empty for months, with no heating so prone to possible damp.
We were unable to do any of our usual fundraising until we returned.
This made a significant dent in our reserves that we had built up over the years.
If it was not for the Covid grants we received, we would have struggled financially.
