Overview

2024/25 was a successful year for the PA despite some difficult circumstances. The Chair was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2024 and so received treatment throughout the academic year. The efforts and dedication of the members of the committee has been greatly appreciated, with Hannah Robinson remaining in the Chair position but mainly doing behind the scenes administrative work. Despite this the PA has £8510.25 in the account at the end of the academic year, comprising £4650.97 from 2024/25 and £3859.28 carried over from 2023/24. We are in talks with the senior leadership team to establish how this money can be invested in lasting ways that benefit all the children. This has previously been about school playground improvements, which we are still hoping to achieve despite the huge costs of items in the current climate.

The committee held 3 formal meetings over the last academic year, with the elected committee members meeting on separate occasions with and without the headteacher to discuss plans and accounts. Voting members each attended at least 2 meetings to retain voting rights. Mosspits Lane PA has relevant policies to adhere to as advised by our insuring

organisation - ParentKind - copies of which are available on the PA section of the school website, or by contacting us on pa@mosspits.com

Whilst we do not have a formal Treasurer in post - the three elected members take equal responsibility for financial monitoring and are the signatories on the bank account. As this year we have exceeded the threshold for submitting more detailed account information (due to us receiving the spacehive forest school grant) we will be engaging with an accountant / person with appropriate skills to provide the required information for the charity commission.

Income/Activities

NovemberFest was a huge challenge with last minute national changes to insurance requirements causing us huge pressures to ensure we were covered, with unplanned expenditure and therefore significantly reduced profit compared to the previous year.

The Christmas raffle, 3 termly discos, tuck shops and bake sales continue to be popular fundraising activities and run easily due to well practised planning and execution. Cauliflower Cards (Christmas artwork) also remains popular and will be continued.

Preloved uniform sorting requires a huge amount of time and effort from committee members - this year we took the decision to only accept branded uniform, have donated all excess stock to other charities and have a more organised system in the limited storage area the PA has. We now ask only for branded uniform in excellent condition.

In 2024/25 we trialled a Superwoman and Superman shop based on requests for Mothers Day and Fathers Day gifts. Whilst well received these events took a great deal of planning and time which we don’t feel is sustainable going forwards.

The nationwide Asda Cashpot initiative provided us with a boost in funds of almost £700 - this is paid by the Asda Foundation, based on the amount of money spent by families on their weekly shop over a period of 3 months in the Autumn.

Our summer festival Mossfest, whilst well received and enjoyed by almost 500 people this year, is not sustainable next year as it stands. The event takes months of planning and the committee members involved the last 2 years aren’t able to commit to another event of this size in the coming year due to their own work and family responsibilities.

Initiatives such as school lottery and Easy Fundraising give us additional funds across the year based on number of supporters to each cause - this information needs to be shared again across the school community to gain more support.

Expenditure

We have provided whole school treats across the year, with a Panto, Easter Eggs and a Circus Experience Day for all the children and we made our annual donation towards the Year 6 prom.

We purchased coats for our vulnerable children within the school and approved several PA funding requests from across the school.

The PA has overseen the expenditure of the grants we received from LCC and Merseyside Combined Authority for our Forest School development. This project has been implemented by Fran Disley, a parent experienced in this field, who has planned and delivered the space and sourced the training required for staff to be able to deliver this important and valuable method of learning and development. The forest school area is now being overseen by Mr Toy and hopefully all the children will benefit from accessing the space.
