Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document
By means of a conveyance of 24 November 1925, various land holdings collectively referred to as the Manor, were transferred to Middleham Town Council.
The conveyance states: To Hold the said Manor and hereditaments unto and to the use of the Council and their assigns forever in fee simple Upon Trust for the benefit of the inhabitant householders of the Parish of Middleham

The income derives solely from rental of land it owns. This comprises moor land used for racehorse training, grazing land and part of the ‘Town Wastes’.

Expenditure has, in recent years, been on land maintenance (grass cutting, hedge cutting, and maintenance of cobbled market area) within the town but also considers funding requests that are consistent with the charity’s objectives.
The Town Clerk advises the Trustee on its responsibilities to have regard to the charitable and public benefits when making decisions.

The Reserves Policy adopted on 27 March 2019 notes guidance from the Charity Commission, as follows:

Overview
The financial management of the charity in prior years as been at a high level, however, due to a lack of handover between Clerks, the charity bank account has been inaccessible for several months. This has led to the accounts being Audited late – in February 2024 rather than in the months post year end (March 2023)
