## **GSL’s Report**

As we are all aware, this has been an unusual period, which has affected the operation of the whole Group. This is our first AGM since the start of Covid and we look forward to the appointment of new members at our meeting. We are in a stronger position today than we have been for a number of years and we need to capitalise on this success.

## Membership

   - 31[st] January 2021 – 9 Beavers & 2 Leaders; 13 Cubs & 2 Leaders; 13 Scouts, 2 Leaders & 3 Sectional Assistants; 1 GSL. Current Position – 22 Beavers & 4 Leaders; 16 Cubs, 2 Leaders & 3 Sectional Assistants; 16 Scouts, 3 Leaders & 2 Sectional Assistants; 1 GSL & 1 Assistant GSL

- The leaders in the Group rose to the challenges caused by Covid and Adam has played the key role in this. His IT skills enabled the Group to adopt zoom and he guided other leaders to become more proficient with online platforms and tools such as PowerPoint. We were aware that some families did not have access to IT equipment and so we purchased some tablets to facilitate this. These will be able to be used in sectional meetings.

- Since our last AGM the service of some of our adults has been recognised with national awards

   - 2019 – Adam and Colin were awarded the Award of Merit for service to Scouting above and beyond just turning up weekly to meetings. Berry was awarded a certificate to mark 50 years’ service with the Group. Berry has been a Cub Scout Leader, GSL, member of the Group Executive and for the past 20 years she has been booking secretary and cleaner for the HQ.

- Financially the Group is in a strong position thanks to the receipt of grants from Central Government. For rating purposes, we are treated as a business and so this meant that we received around £20,000 in government grants. Additionally, we are raising steady funds through the new West Lindsey Lottery (approximately £1000 per annum), donations from online shopping using Smile Amazon and Easy Fundraising, together with the clothes bank and newspaper recycling.

- Our financial strength will enable us to look at replacing the main and fire doors of the HQ and to replace the roofs of the garages.

- One of the greatest disappointments was the cancellation of Eurojam – scheduled for 2020, postponed until 2021 and finally cancelled. This is the first major international event that we have had anybody selected to be a member of the UK contingent. We hope that Charlotte and Connor will be able to take up opportunities in the future.

- We have taken the opportunity to make improvements to our HQ and are indebted to Chris Hindley for redecorating our HQ whilst the

sections were meeting outdoors. Prior to this we received a grant of £10,000 from the Post Code Lottery to cover the cost of installing solar panels and battery storage capacity, which will help us to reduce our electricity costs.

- Poacher has been rescheduled for 2022 and the Group is planning to team up again with Haxey and Market Rasen and attend the camp.

- In summary the Group is growing and we are well equipped to provide our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts with an enjoyable but challenging programme that will provide them with Skills for Life. We do, however, need to strengthen the Cub leadership team. We also have a wealth of expertise amongst our parents and grandparents relating to maintenance and we need to tap that potential in order to release our leaders to concentrate on their work with our young people.
