Aims and Organisation

By virtue of its Constitution, the main objects of the Society are to educate the public in the appreciation of the art and science of music by the presentation of concerts and other activities.

Reserves Policy

At the Committee Meeting on 6‘ October 2025 the committee approved to reduce the amount in the Reserves to £10,000.00. This offers protection against unexpected losses in deposits invested and would also cover our responsibilities towards contracted musicians in the unlikely event of the Society ceasing to operate. This Reserves Policy amount is over and above the Designated Funds.

Review of Activities:

During the Season September 2024 to May 2025 the Choir rehearsed and performed 4 concerts open to the public; all of which were performed at The Voice of God Church in Priory Place, Doncaster:

November 9" 2024 — the Passing of the Year : Jonathan Dove; and other works; 14” December 2024 the choir performed Handel’s Messiah with members of the National Festival Orchestra and guest conductor Carey Williams; sponsored by DCS Millenium Club and also one soloist sponsored by a choir member; 15" March 2025 the choir performed Verdi’s Requiem along with the Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band sponsored by a donation from a former member, Margaret Smyllie, and, finally, on Saturday 17% May 2025 Duke Ellington’s Sacred Concert was performed accompanied by the Northern Festival Jazz Band and in collaboration with Doncaster Voices; there were two performances — 6pm. and 8 pm.

On 17" December 2024 some members of the Choir sang at a service in Marshgate Prison and then later that day the choir participated in a Carol Service at ‘Our Lady of Perpetual Help’ Catholic Church in Bentley and the choir sang carols in the Market Place in Doncaster City Centre on 21*t December 2024. Members of the Choir were also invited to take part in the funeral of a former Patron and supporter of the Society, Dr Malcom Stevenson, on July 18" 2025.

The Weekly Raffle was run from September 2024; along with the Monthly Stall which is usually on the first Tuesday in the month.

The Society has met in Cantley Methodist Church for all weekly rehearsals and in Sprotbrough Library for the committee meetings. There were 2 additional workshops during the season: 28 September 2024 at St Jude’s Church Hexthorpe and 11° January 2025 at Cantley Methodist Church. The Annual Dinner was held at Wheatley Golf Club on 6 March 2025.

Management Committee’s responsibilities for the financial statement

The management committee has responsibility for preparing financial statements for each financial period which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the Society and of the surplus or deficit for the period. In preparing these financial statements the management committee is required to:

The management committee are aware that the Society’s Reserves have been significantly depleted due to ~ the lack of income during the lockdown season of 2020-2021 and to this end measures are in place to ensure that future losses are kept to a minimum.

The management committee are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the Society and enable the management committee to prepare financial statements. The management committee are responsible for safeguarding the assets of the Society and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention of fraud and irregularities.

Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of Doncaster Choral Society

| report on the accounts ofthe Society[for] the year ended 31°[ July] 2025, which are set out on pages 4 —9 of the Accounts.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year (under section 43(2) of the Charities Act 1993 (the 1993 Act)) and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

° examine the accounts (under section 43(3)(a) of the 1993 Act);

Basis of Independent Examiner’s report

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the Charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as Trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently | do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

NOTES TO THE ACCOUNTS:

Restricted Funds

la As per Committee meeting on 22nd September 2016 £8,000.00 from The Lesley Garrett concert at CAST in November 2015 was assigned to ‘Restricted Funds'.

At the Committee Meeting on 6th October 2025 and following advice from our Independent Examiner the committee agreed that the Restricted Funds should be more correctly classed as 'Designated' and the two funds have been amalgamated as such.

ib As per Committee meeting on 31st October 2019 a donation received in September 2017 of £6000 plus Gift Aid totalling £7500.00 has been assigned to 'Designated Funds’. 2024/25 £3000 drawn to sponsor Concert 3 - Net £4,500.00
