The trustees presents their report and accounts for the year ended 31 December 2020.
Objectives and activities
The principal objectives of the Society are lo advance the education of the mentally handicapped. lo
promote the prevention and development of mental health and lo foster mutual help and co-operation
betheen parents. guardians, relalives and friends ol the mentally handicapped.
The main activity of the society which is the provision of a club in which the mentally handicapperj can
participate and express themselves, helps their wellbeing and conlribules lo their ¢are.
The Iruslees have had regard lo the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit and consider the
provision ol Ihe club meeis this criteria.
Structure governance and management
The society Is registered as a charity Iregisleied number 5052381 and is conslituled under a trust deed
adopted 14 July 1976.
The society is m8nage(J by the execulive committee who are elected by the members of the society.
The Iruslees who have served during the year and since the year end are sel out on page 1,
logelhef with the a¢Jdress ol the society. New trustees are recruited and appointed as the Iruslees
leol appropriate.
A¢hlevement$ and porformance
The society has continued lo provide facilities lo members during the year. Aolivity levels have reducèd
signilicanlly in comparison with previous years due lo the measures Covid-19 lockdown enforced in
March 2020 and other measures taken throughout the year.
The socieiy provides a club. the Smethwick Mencap Social Club. lo provide a sale environment in
which members can meet, lake part in activities and enjoy social inlera¢lion in an environment suitable
lo their needs. The s(xiety also sponsois the annual Smethwick Challenge bicycle ride in which
member5 can participate
The principal source ol funding has been renl received Irom the letting of the flats al Greenlawns and
the mencap social club general and entertainment fund A grant was secured from the Government's
Small Business Grant Fund. Further funds were received from donations and gifts.

The results for the year are sel out in the Stslemenl of receipts and payments on page 5.
The financial year to 31 December 2020 has shown an increase in the reserve5 of the charity compared
with the previous year.
The charity has performed feduced a¢tiviles duiing Ihe year due lo the national IC￿kdownS implimenled
by the government In March 2020.
The charity received amounts from the local authonty in response to the Covid-19 pandemic An
amount of £10.000 was received dunng the year from the Small Business Grant Fund.

8 Trustee's romuneration and expenses
The balance due lo S P Tong at 31 De¢ember 2020 was £3,188 {2019.' £9641.
The Iruslee is a director of Greenlawns Apha RTM Company Limited who provide service charges
and collect ground rent on the flats. Ground rent and service charges during the year amounted lo
£2,48012019 £2.4801 The balance due al 31 December 2020 was £9.92012019' £7,440)
No remuneration or expenses were paid to the Iruslee during the year.
The Iruslee collects and holds rental income on behalf of the charity. The amount held al 31
December 2020 has been included in bank balances.
9 Non-adlusting p08t roportlng date events
Since the year end, the Implications of the COVID-19 pandemic have materially adversely affected
the turnover ol the charity.
AS the charity prepares ils annual financial statements using the receipts and payments method. no
post reportin9 dale event would affect the accounts for the year ended 31 December 2020.
However, the charity has assessed the situation and deemed that the financial position al the year
end would not have been adiusled to reflect any impact ol the ongoing pandemic Il the acccounls
wefe prepared using the accruals method The duration and impact of the COVID-19 pandemic
remains uncertain al this lime. 11 Is noi possible lo estimate Ils ongoing Impact on the financial
position of the Charity for lulure periods.
