We started the season with a successful Find Your Voice evening for members and guests and delivered our usual programme of three concerts during the year. Our autumn concert was a performance of Robert Ray’s Gospel Mass and a selection of Gospel solos and choruses. We presented our usual Christmas concert alongside the Scunthorpe Cooperative Junior Choir and the Lindsey Chamber Orchestra. In April we performed Mendelssohn’s Elijah at Lincoln Cathedral in a joint concert with Lincoln Choral Society and Bingham Choral Society. This shared enterprise spread the costs of presenting this major work, and attracted a larger than expected audience which resulted in a lower deficit than we budgeted for. We also attracted guest singers to the choir who took the opportunity to sing in this famous 19[th] century oratorio. The overall surplus for the period reflects the success of the Elijah concert and a one-off boost to Gift Aid income due to a previously unclaimed entitlement. Despite no longer attracting a corporate sponsor we achieved a reasonable net income from our Christmas concert. Ticket sales and other finances for the Elijah concert were generally managed by the Lincoln Choral Society. Once costs were reconciled we were invoiced for our share which has been allocated in the accounts. However, this means our declared Ticket Sales figure for the season is artificially low. ## **FINANCIAL REVIEW** A surplus of £477.20 (deficit 2025 – £5,085.55) arose during the year, leaving funds at 31 May 2026 of £37,026.46 (2025 - £36,549.26). 3 ## **SCUNTHORPE & DISTRICT CHORAL SOCIETY** ## **TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL REPORT for the Year Ended 31 MAY 2026 (continued)** ## **Reserves Policy** The Society believes a policy is needed so that it can be confident that the level of financial reserves matches the needs of the Society. In assessing the amount of reserve, the Committee will take the following points into account: - - Its forecasts for levels of income in future years, taking into account the reliability of each source of income and the prospects for opening up new sources - Its forecasts for expenditure in future years on the basis of planned activity - Its analysis of any future needs, opportunities, contingencies or risk – the effects of which are not likely to be able to be met out of income if and when they arise; and - Its assessment, on the best evidence reasonably available, of the likelihood of each of those needs etc. arising and the potential consequences for the Society of not being able to meet them. The committee will review the levels of funds to be held in reserve and this policy every two years. The trustees are satisfied that the trust assets are adequate to fulfil its obligations. I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. ## **Independent examiners’ statement** I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: 1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or 2. the accounts do not accord with those records. I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
