Trustees’ Annual Report for the period

1[st] October 2023 to 31[st] August 2024 Charity name: Manchester Revolution Wheelchair Basketball Club Charity registration number: 504371

Objectives and Activities

Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document
The objects of the club shall be the relief of disabled persons by
the promotion and encouragement of active sports among such
disabled persons and by assisting the work of statutory
authorities and other voluntary organisations engaged in
providing facilities for physical and mental recreation.
Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or services
identified in the accounts.
The charity’s core activity is the delivery of wheelchair basketball
sessions in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment, open
to individuals from the age of 5 upwards. These sessions aim to
promote physical activity, teamwork, and social inclusion for
people of all abilities.
In addition to recreational sessions, the charity provides
opportunities for players to participate in competitive sport
through its teams, which compete in the British Wheelchair
Basketball National League. This pathway enables participants
to develop their skills and engage in sport at both developmental
and elite levels.
Statement confirming
whether the trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit
The trustees confirm that they have had due regard to the
guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit
when exercising their duties and making decisions. In particular,
the trustees have ensured that the activities of the charity,
including the provision and promotion of wheelchair basketball
opportunities, deliver clear public benefit by advancing amateur
sport and promoting physical and mental well-being among
individuals with disabilities.

Additional information

Contribution made by
volunteers
The trustees are grateful for the commitment and enthusiasm of
our volunteers, whose contributions are vital to the operation of
Manchester Revolution. Their support enables us to deliver
inclusive sporting opportunities and community engagement
throughout the year.

Achievements and Performance

Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
During the 2023/24 season, Manchester Revolution
successfully delivered weekly wheelchair basketball
sessions, maintaining a strong level of engagement and
participation throughout the year.
As a result of this continued commitment, the club entered
two mixed teams into the British Wheelchair Basketball
National League. The First Team delivered an outstanding
performance, finishing third in the Premier League and also
securing third place at the National League Playoffs. The
Second Team also performed admirably in Division 2,
finishing mid-table. Importantly, this provided valuable
competitive experience for several of our development
players—an area the club is keen to build on further in the
2024/25 season.
In addition to domestic competition, the First Team
represented the club at the EuroCup Qualifiers in Hanover,
Germany, where they delivered a strong showing and
finished mid-table. Although the team did not progress to the
finals, the experience gained was invaluable and will inform
future European competition efforts.

Financial Review

Review of the charity’s
financial position at the end
of the period
At the end of the financial period, the charity reported total
income of £25,543 and total expenditure of £22,866,
resulting in a net surplus of £2,677 for the year.
The charity held £8,107 in the bank at the close of the
period. This reflects a strong financial position and
provides a level of reserve to support the charity’s short-
term operational needs and ongoing activities.
The trustees are satisfied with the charity’s financial
performance during the year. The surplus demonstrates
effective management of resources and supports the
charity’s ability to meet its objectives. The bank balance at
year end ensures that the charity retains adequate liquidity
to manage any unforeseen costs and maintain continuity of
service.
Looking ahead, the trustees remain mindful of the need to
maintain sustainable income streams and to manage
expenditure carefully to ensure the long-term financial
health of the charity. Regular monitoring and prudent
budgeting will continue to underpin our financial strategy.
Explanation of any
uncertainties about the
charity continuing as a going
concern
The trustees have reviewed the charity’s financial position
and are satisfied it remains a going concern. With a year-
end bank balance of £8,107, the charity is in a stable
financial position.
There are currently no material uncertainties about the
charity’s ability to continue operating in the foreseeable
future. The trustees will continue to monitor income and
expenditure closely to ensure financial sustainability.
