YOUTH FOR CHRIST NORTH EAST ANNUAL TRUSTEES, REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 JULY 2023 The Executive Committee present their report along with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 July 2023. The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set out on page 8 and comply with the charity's constitution and applicable law. Strutture Youth for Christ North East IYFCNEI is a registered charity Ino. 5042621 registered on l June 1967 and Eoverned by a constitution dated 12 November 2(X)2. The address of the principal oflice is Youth for Christ North East, West 2 Asama Court, Newcastle Business Park, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE7 YD. The name5 and addresses of the charity's bankers and auditors are stated on page l. YFCNE is an affiliate member of British Youth for Christ IBYFCI and must comply with the chartering regulations adopted by BYFC. Governance and management The Executive Committee during the year comprised, Pastor Mlchael Duff, Joel Barwick, Stephen Riley and Pastor Julian Clark. New Members of the Committee are appointed by unanimous agreement of the current members. Line Managers meet monthly with the Director and the Executive Committee meets bimonthly with the management to review policy, review performance against current goals and consider future plans. Management regarding current projects and activities makes day to day decisions but more strategic decisions relating to new project5 and areas of major expenditure are taken to the Executive Committee. As we move into the next financial year we will see Stephen Riley resign from the board. The Trustees in carrying out their respective duties have at all times paid due regard to the Charity Commission guidance on Public Benefit Requirement as laid down out in section 4 of the Charitie5 Act 2006. Charitable Alms.. Our Mission Statement is "Taklng the Good News relevantly to every young person in the North East of En9land" We do this by creating and taking opportunities in the local area to embody the gospel of Jesus Christ, with and on behalf of the local church of our region, in ways that Speak to and effectively engage local young people of this generation within the 8-25 age group (with a core focus on ages 11-181. By North East we include County Ourham, Wearside and Teesside, but prioritise the area immediately around Tyneside and Northumberland. To enable us to embrace our mission. the key strategic aims and objectives for the year were a5 follows: Growing Leaders Resourcing Churches Equipping Schools Gathering Together We will continue to embrace these prioritie5 in seeking to be effective in taking good news relevantly to young people whilst also beginning to review what we do and where God is taking us throu8h the lens of Youth for Christ's 4 D's of evangelism.. Demonstration, Declaration, Decision. Disciple. Growing leaders One of our key objectives is to foster Christian leadership potential within young people from across the region. We continue to develop new initiatives, as well as njnning our existing programmes to help achieve these goals. We are currently working with Churches to help them provide strong mentoring and development to inspire the young people they work with to grow in their leadership gifting and potential. We provide training and advice to Church leaders, as well as direct mentoring for Youth worker5 in how to develop leadership in young people. We are doing this directly through our monthly Youth Leadership Training nights and have enga8ed over 30 youth workers from 10 different churches.

YOUTH FOR CHRIST NORTH EAST ANNUAL TRUSTEES, REPORT (continued) FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 JULY 2023 Resourclng Churche5 We have worked with a number of key ministry partners to help Churches reach and impact their local communities. Once again, we secured funding through Street Games to provide holiday activities to young people across the summer holidays as part of the 'fit and fed, initiative. Sessions involve a variety of activities, helping the young people grow in confidence, and explore new interests. It is a funded provision designed to help families from communities with healthy food and activities. We have worked with young people across the city to deliver this provision. Working with local Churches across Tyneside and Northumberland we have partnered in providing both sports and activity based groups to engage with young people from local communitie5. Our team continue to speak in Church and youth group settings across the region, in multiple Churches from a plethora of different denominations. Equlpplng Schools Over the past 12 months we have been active in 3 schools running our mentoring projects. We have two main schools programme5 that we run which are the Xcel Course and Rock Solid. Xcel is a mentoring course for a hand picked group of students, looking at excelling in character. emotions and lifestyle. We currently run Xcel in 3 schools across the region. We run eight sessions per week across three schools engaging with approximately 50 students each week. Gathering Together To the year ending 31st July 2023, we didn't run any of our Gathering events but will be relaunching these later in 2023. This wa5 a strategic move, creating margin to focus on the restructure of the team and the future of the organisation. Finance We have continued to stream line our finances and have seen significant improvement in this area. With schools enBagement, a new Church project, and the continued support from many partners with regular donations and Church donors, we have had managed through the year. We are working and monitoring our new budgetin8 System to help with cash flow moving forward. General The organisation has gone through significant change during the past 12 months, with a new Director in place, a full workplace consultation and review of the staffing and project structure. Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of Youth for Christ North East I report to the Trustees on my examination of the financial statements of the Youth for Christ North East for the year ended 31 July 2023, which are set out on pages 6 to 11. Responsibilities ondbasis of report As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 20111'the Act'l. You consider that the audit requirements of section 144 of the 2011 Act do not apply and that an independent examination is required. Having Satisfied myself that the financial statements are not required to be audited, I report in respect of my examination of the financial statements carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act. In carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commlssion under section 14515llbl of the 2011 Act. Independent exominerfs statement I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect-. 111 accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act.. or 121 the financial statements do not accord with those records. or 131 the financial statements do not comply with the applicable requlrement5 concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a 'true and fair view, whlch is not a matter considered os part of an independent examination. The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing their accounts in èccordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021, the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021 and the Charitie5 Act 2011. Golng concern The Trustees consider that there are no material vncertainties about the Charity5 ability to continue as a going concern for the foreseeable future. Trustee5 have subsequently reduced support costs whilst mainiting income levels to rectify the deficiency in funds. Accordingly, the financial statements are prepared on the going concern basis. Income Donations are generally accounted for when received by the Trust, including provision for any gift aid recoverable. Income from functions and projects is recognised as earned. Investment income is recognised on a receivable basis. Voluntary assistance Time is expended on the Charity's activities and govemance which is donated free of charge. It is impractical to quantify the value of the time given, and accordingly it is neither recorded as donated income nor as an expense in the financial statements. Taxation As a registered Charity. the Trust is generally exempt from income tax and capital gains tax, but not from VAT. Irrecoverable VAT is included in the cost of those items to which it re13te5. Restricted Income Donations and legacies for specific purposes are credited to restricted funds and expenditure for these purposes is charged to the fund5.
