HOGHTON SOCIAL and SPORTS CENTRE ANNUAL REPORT 2024/25
Regular meetings and the A.G.M. have taken place this year with an average attendance of 8 trustees.
Significant upgrades and refurbishments have been completed on the sports pavilion and bowling facility. Thanks to Darren Eccles and Howard Tattersall for their project management.
An extension to the main hall has been built with ramp access for disabled and is nearing completion. The large new entrance hall with up to date ladies, gents and accessible toilet facilities will be a vast, much needed improvement for the community events and regular users.
Further upgrades are being planned to modernize other areas in the hall. Grateful thanks to Mark Stocks and Paul Santus who are overseeing the project. Grants have been acquired and donations received from some regular user groups. Fundraising is ongoing.
The hall bookings are continuing well, providing regular exercise and dance classes, meetings, amateur theatre, training sessions and craft fairs. Also, private family parties and gatherings.
Both the cricket and bowling clubs have had a busy season and continue to grow. The tennis court surface is still unplayable so ‘out of use’ this past season.
Our thanks to chairman Ian Murray and vice chair Paul Sanus, who give their time to oversee the general running of the hall.
Thanks also to Joan Houghton and Gordon Kirby who have attended to all the accounts. All bookings and enquiries are dealt with by Millie Santus. Sue Flitcroft continues as our efficient minute taker. Their work is much appreciated.
Looking forward, our committee continue working to provide the local residents and various regular users from other areas with this community facility.

Treasurers Report Year End 15 October 2025
This has once again been a busy year for HSSC with contractors on site for the Village Hall and Pavilion most of the year.
The New Entrance and toilets for the Village Hall began. Due to weather in winter there was a delay. The finishing touches have taken place only this November. A year to be remembered! A big thankyou must go to our Vice Chairman who has been on site every day the builders or contractors have been here to ensure the job was being done to plan. Mark Stocks has given his time over the year and has been invaluable. A final account will be paid in November.
The diary for the Village Hall has been busy with income for lettings north of £20,000 once again Thanks go to the bookings secretary for looking after the diary and bookings.
Along with that of course comes all the expenses and repairs and maintenance necessary to keep the hall looking good. All figures are explained on the final year end summary.
As regards Hoghton Recreation Society, the tennis club has not been operating due to the courts being not fit to play. Cricket and bowls are operating several teams and working slowly up their leagues. Improvements have been carried out at the pavilion and funds held have now been exhausted in carrying out the improvements already mentioned.
Our total funds are now £98173.03 with final contractors accounts to be paid early in the next financial year. The accounts have been kindly audited by Elisabeth Sawle.
Our bankers are Barclays Bank. All our monies are held in this bank
