## Chairs Welcome

Thank you all for coming today. Up until Autumn 2025 we were having a good year. We have lots of regular users including school, pickle ball, parish council, yoga, fitness classes, Halton Football Club, Capernwray church and badminton private users and post office. We had lots of weddings which is great for the income for the hall and we have another busy year ahead. Thanks to all the trustees for their efforts to keep the hall a thriving asset for the community, in particular [REDACTED]. The Events committee need a huge thank you for the amazing fireworks night and the children’s Xmas party. Their efforts are greatly appreciated. And last but not least we need to say thanks to the great cleaners we have had this year.

Ironically given the events at the beginning of 2026, during last year we undertook lots of actions relating to a fire risk assessment we had had undertaken. We had new emergency lights fitted, the doors adjusted to ensure the gaps were compliant and the fire alarm upgraded. That work was all wasted when the electrical issues started to occur in late November and damaged all the new lights and alarm beyond repair. We had multiple instances of power surges and multiple electricians could not get to the bottom of the issue. Then at the beginning of January the issue culminated in another surge that caused a small electrical fire. As a result we have now had a lot of electrical work done to make the building safe and the cause was finally identified as a damaged mains electric cable coming into the building. After a lot of work we are now on day 2 of being open again but there is still work remaining to be done in the ladies loos to repair the fire damage. The good news about 2025 is that we got the curtains replaced with a National Lottery Grant and they look great and have received good feedback. We have also moved to online banking to make the financial processes easier to manage. On that note we would like acknowledge the very sad news of [REDACTED] passing away in 2025 and note huge contribution he made to hall for many years.

We are hoping for a better 2026 now that we are back on the straight and narrow with the electrical issues and we have lots of bookings in the year ahead that will be covered in the bookings summary.

## **Events summary for AGM 2026**

During 2025 AVH Events Group organised 2 events:

- Arkholme Bonfire and Fireworks Display.

- Arkholme Children’s Christmas Party.

The Arkholme Bonfire and Fireworks Display was held on the 8[th] of November. Although attendance numbers were slightly lower compared to last year the increase in admission fee from £3 to £5 helped offset this. Alongside the entry fee we had our usual stalls selling hot food, cakes and sweets, we made a total profit of £692.80.

The Children’s Christmas Party held on 7[th] December is a long standing community event and not intended to generate funds for the village hall. It made a small loss of £-61.89.

In addition Arkholme Apple Pressing took a break this year but will be back for 2026.

Our WhatsApp groups for the AVH Events Group and AVH volunteers, set up in 2023 have greatly helped coordinate events particularly when there is not enough time for meetings. They have also led to a greater number of people volunteering for tasks (e.g. baking cakes, manning stalls etc). However we are still facing challenges in finding people to join the actual Events Group to help forward plan and programme in events. We’d welcome people to come forward with suggestions for any events they would like to organise.

Thanks to everyone who volunteers and attends the events for their continued support and enthusiasm.
