3. Chair’s Welcome
2024 has been a great year we have lots of regular users including school, parish council, village coffee mornings, pickle ball, parish council, yoga, pilates, fitness classes, Halton Football Club, Capernwray church and badminton private users and post office.
We were really fortunate to be able to get a £3000 grant from the Bridges Trust and a National Lottery Grant for nearly £17000 to pay for new solar panels on the roof and a huge thanks go to [REDACTED] for working with Go Green to enable these to be swiftly put on the hall roof in March 2024. We have been benefiting from the free electricity these provide us with and have battery storage in the loft to be able to use the power when it isn’t sunny. When our electricity contract comes up for renewal we will be moving suppliers to ensure that we will then be able to sell electricity back to the grid and hopefully make a small amount of money too.
We were also lucky to receive a £300 grant from the 3R charity shop in Carnforth which allowed us to purchase 15 plastic storage boxes with inserts to keep our wine, champagne and water glasses safe and easier to store and keep a track of for weddings and parties.
We had lots of weddings in 2024 which is great for the income for the hall and we have another busy year ahead. Thanks to all the trustees for their efforts to keep the hall a thriving asset for the community. The events committee need a huge thank you for the
amazing Apple Picking and Pressing, the Fireworks night and children’s Xmas party. Their efforts are greatly appreciated and the money that is raised is essential to the ongoing upkeep of the hall.
Huge thanks go to Issy who does all the bookings and the cleaners who keep the hall so well looked after. We really appreciate their work.
And the most important thank you tonight, in his absence, is to [REDACTED] who has been treasurer for more years than I can work out but is sadly stepping down. The hours he has dedicated to the hall without payment are hugely appreciated by everyone who knows just how much time it takes to run this amazing asset and if those that don’t know how much effort it takes to run knew then they too would be amazed by how much of a huge thank you we as a community owe him.
A national lottery grant has been submitted within the last few weeks for £6000 for new curtains.

6. Event Committee Update
RJP read out the following on behalf of AVH [REDACTED].
During 2024 five events have been organised by the AVH [REDACTED]. These were:
-
HAGS (Spot On Event).
-
Arkholme Village Sports Day.
-
Arkholme Apple Pressing.
-
Arkholme Bonfire and Fireworks Display.
-
Arkholme Children’s Christmas Party.
These events were open to everybody and family friendly. The Sports Day (held on 30[th] of June) and Christmas Party (held on 7[th] of December) are long standing community events and not intended to generate funds for the village hall.
The HAGS ‘Spot On’ event on 19th April was well attended with a total of 72 tickets sold. We also sold hotdogs and sweets in the foyer so just about broke even after the £800 company fee was deducted.
Arkholme Apple Pressing was held on the 12th of October and despite poor weather over 100 people attended throughout the course of the day. Over 300 litres of juice was pressed with about ¾ of this being given away as fresh apple juice and the remainder being used to make cider. There was a raffle with apple themed prizes and stalls selling cakes, hot food, drinks and merchandise. Total profit was £431.35.
[REDACTED] and [REDACTED] was held on the 9th of November and continues to grow in popularity. In addition to the entry fee for the bonfire and fireworks there were stalls selling hot food, cakes and sweets that all sold out. Total profit was £1055.82.
WhatsApp Groups for AVH Events Group and volunteers were set up in 2023 and these have been really useful in helping to organise events particularly when there is not enough time for meetings. It has also resulted in a greater number of people looking to volunteer (e.g. baking cakes, manning stalls etc) on the day however we are struggling to find people to join the actual Events Group so we will be putting a call for new members to help with preevent planning and organisation in the near future. We will also be asking for a volunteer to take on a liaison role with Spot On to allow us to host future events in collaboration with them.
7. Election of Trustees
[REDACTED] and [REDACTED] will not be restanding and are thanked for their time as trustees.
[REDACTED] and [REDACTED] were re-elected. Proposed by[REDACTED] and seconded by [REDACTED]
