## **AGM 2025** 

**9[th] ORMSKIRK Scout Group is an independent, selfgoverning (Autonomous) Educational Charity operating under the policy and rules of the Scout Association (POR 3.22).** 

**The Group is also separately registered with the ‘Charity Commission’ – (registration no. 503343).** 



We have 10 sometimes 11 squirrels. 

We currently have 4 leaders Sam, Mandy, Karen and me. We have 1 young leader Abbie. 

2 squirrels have completed their acorn award. They have achieved lots of badges since January: All about me challenge badge Be active Get creative Let's celebrate Story time All about adventure challenge badge Explore outdoors Go Wild Let's grow Super hero 

We have made cards for Christmas, Easter, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. We took part in 9th Ormskirk Group camp at Bispham. 

The squirrels are looking forward to the District Gathering camp, visiting for the day. 

Everyone came to St. Georges Day Parade, 100% attended with parents or grandparents. 

Squirrels are an absolute joy and our team of leaders are amazing! We're all very proud of all the lovely squirrels! We're always learning new games and having lots of fun taking part in new activities.

9[th] Ormskirk Operate 2 Beaver Colonies 

Hello from Wednesday Beavers 

We have had more Squirrels join us at Beavers, we now have 15 Beavers, and we welcomed Jess as a new Beaver Team Member. 

We have attended Remembrance Day parade and St. George's Day parade this year, which we have had quite a good attendance at. We have had many craft nights, including kitemaking, Christmas card crafts, Easter cards and Easter Egg hunts and many more. 

Many Beavers took part in the Group camp, and they all enjoyed the activities like grass sledging and trails and archery, some of the Beavers even stayed overnight. 

We have had 5 Beavers gain the Bronze award. and all of them are continuing their scouting career in Cubs. We are hoping to hold a Beaver sleepover in September /October, when we hope to be joined by the Thursday night Beavers. 

We lost Skip in February which left us all very sad and I hope he is glad with the work we are all doing. All in all, it's been a very busy 12 months doing all sorts of fun activities, and I thank all the leaders for their help.

## Hello From Thursday Beavers 

As 2024 drew to a close, there were 14 Beavers on our waiting list who were all of age to start Beavers and no availability in the Wednesday Colony.  So, Lesley, Pauline and I reopened our second Beaver Colony which had had to amalgamate during Lock Down. 

We started in January with 6 Beavers and this has grown to 10 Beavers and a successful Parent Rota.  The adults from both Colonies help each other with the programme planning and activities.  Dan has joined the team as a Young Leader and is great at helping with games and getting equipment together. 

We have taken part in Group Camp at Bispham Hall, St George’s Day and Church Parade.  The Beavers have achieved their Health and Fitness Badge and are working towards the Adventure Challenge and Gardener Badge. 

A big thank you to Lesley and Pauline for helping reopen the Colony and holding the fort when I broke my ankle!

9[th] Ormskirk Operate 2 Cub packs Wednesday and Thursday nights. 

Hello from Wednesday Cubs, 

We are into our second year and still going strong.  Myself, Steph and Andrew have now been joined by Nicholas and we also have Charlie as a young leader with us. 

This year we have had 5 cubs gaining their chief scouts silver awards. 

We have worked on a number of badges, including having Tim to talk to us about physical disability and a visitor talk to us about being deaf, for our disability badge, and Nicholas getting us some lovely plants to use for our gardener’s badge. 

Earlier in the year we did a hike with a visit to the chip shop at the end. 

We joined in the district Ski the hill trip, which everyone really enjoyed and learned a new skill. 

We had a great if not wet time at District cub camp last weekend and look forward to the gathering in September. 

What fun will next year bring?!

## Hello 

Since our last AGM, the Thursday Cub Pack have been very busy.  We currently have 15 Cubs and 4 Cub Leaders. Over the last 12 months we have had 11 complete their Chief Scout Silver Award.

**Team Lead Thursday Cub** 

**‘Teach Scouts, not how to get a living, but how to live.’  The latest phrase for this is #Skills for Life, but Baden Powell realised that that was what Scouting was about over 100 years ago!  He also quoted that the real way to gain happiness is to give it to others.** 

**So, that’s what we do, week in and week out, therefore we should all be feeling very happy!** 

**What a busy year!  With currently 32 Scouts, we welcomed Sam back from university to join the team and there are now 6 adult volunteers regularly running activities for the Scouts, although not everyone can make it every week.** 

**Five Scouts have moved up to Explorers and all gained their Chief Scout’s Gold Award.** 

**Activities have included learning about bicycle maintenance and taking part in a 25mile bike ride to Formby beach and back for the Cyclist badge.  Three weeks of Ju Jitsu self defence under the instruction of four Senseis.  Bell ringing at Christ Church, taking part in Remembrance Sunday, Church Parade and St George’s Day Services. Moonlight, the Expedition Challenge, Survival Skills, Team Building and many more.** 

**Camps have included a 10-day visit to France, weekend Patrol Camp at Tawd Vale, Group Camp at Bispham Hall, Night Hike and Sleepover in the HQ and overnight Expeditions.  One of the highlights of the year for me was when visiting the Arc de Triomphe we were asked to take part in the ceremony to rekindle the flame on the grave of the unknown soldier.  This was a real honour and not something that was planned.  It added an extra hour on to our already tight schedule and we had to try and find loos for those who were desperate, food for those who were hungry, check the train timetable to make sure we could still catch a train and change the time at the Pizza Restaurant which we were booked into.  But we managed and it taught us all that sometimes we just have to seize the moment and adapt.** 

**A huge thank you to the Scout Volunteer Team – Bob, Tim, Andrew, Sam and Beth for your dedication and commitment to the 9th and for being such a great team.**

Nomads is currently at 17 members with a core team of leaders Joe, Elliot and Jenny. 

We’ve had a brilliant year since the last AGM including everything from white water rafting, airsoft, beach trips, go-karting, ice skating and golf to baking challenges, sports days, cinema trips, backwoods cooking, escape rooms and good old fashioned games nights; Nomads have been enjoying a great programme. 

A huge thank you as ever for the continued support of the group as we are as proud as ever to be part of 9th Ormskirk.

## **Group Chair notes** 

Well, what a year we have had at the 9[th] 

For me it’s great to pop into meeting nights and events, seeing all those children and leaders with big smiles on their faces. 

has been great to see all the outdoor activities happening including international camps to France, group camps and section camps and sleepovers. 

There is a wonderful team of leaders and helpers in the background making all this happen, I’ve asked our new treasurer to see if you can all have a pay rise in the next budget😊. 

We sadly lost Skip in January who was the lynchpin of 9[th] Ormskirk, and I couldn’t start to make a list of what he has done for the Group and still is in spirit. It was great to see scouts from past to present coming to help. You all made him proud. 

The Group has grown in number and our young people keep getting top awards, so well done to you all.
