Changes to the governance structure were introduced because of the Charities Commission regulations update and widerscout Association developments. Distr Ict AccouritS Income was £4,791.47 lowerthan in 2023. Whilst capttation saw a modest increase of £3,087.50due to Increasing census numbers, we also had the dosures of 151 Astley and Lowton Explorers contributing to the coff ers.Althoughthesefundsarewelcome,theymustbe protected to cover any potential future costs. The District HQ has again seen significant expendlture in repairs and improvements. The continuing work Is pldir) fur %)11 to see who visit. Thank you to the team ably led by David Copeland for all your hard work in maintaining our wonderful building. Overall, the District had a surplus of £l.LX) for 2023-24. Some will also notice that the buildin8 has also been revalued to £7CXJ,I￿. This has been long overdue and In part was tomrnissioned because of thegovernance change5. Insurance policies have been updated to reflect the new valuation. ScoLIt Shop The shop continued to contribLrte to the Distrirt funds. Sales were £423 down on the previous year but the overall surplus was £1,402.85. District Adult Lead Volunteer Report 2023-24 Lilford Di5trirt is a great district and I do not say that lightly. This is totally due to the dedication and commitment of our leaders, helpers and trustees who week in week out, year in year out strive to give the best possible Scouting experience to the young people in their charge. It often goes unrecorded and unrewarded but you should a51 take personal satisfaction in a job well done. There is no need for me to reiterate what has already been said in the settion lead volunteer reports other than it is great to see two new Squirrel Dreys up and running with another to follow. This 15 particularly good news at a time when districts are seeing long established sections and groups closin8, hopefully this will reverse the trend of a lack of volunteers to help our young people on their Scoutin8journey. Scoutin8 in Lilford is holding its own. This years Census recorded that the District had 596 members however each week l am receiving email enquiries from parents wanting a place for their child. all of which is great new5 and bode5 well for the fvture, we just need those leaders I All I can say to you, as I have done at the last nine AGM'S is for you to keep dolng what you are doing, providing quality scouting within our District. We can only hope that more adults wi51 get involved and give up that "hour, every week I Again I would like to thank the District Trustees for all the hard work they put in. David and Pam Copeland for their continued support and who make life so much easier for us all. Thanks also to JP for the work put in on the accounts and to Marjorie Marsden for her continued support in running the scout shop. To the members of the Appointments Advisory Committee, Sophie and Mel. To Shane and the rest of the Group Lead Volunteers thank you. I stated last year that big changes were afoot, well they are here now and over the next 12 months we will be implementing a lot of these changes from the operating system we use to an upgraded safeguarding policy and to how we run our District and groups. It is daunting but we are more than up to the task. We will have a new County Lead Volunteer shortly and hopefully they will lead us to greater heights. In all likelihood thi5 will be my final report as a DC. I can honestly say that it has been the highest honour to lead such a dedicated and selfless group of people. Little did l imagine 53 years ago when starting my scouting journey that I would end up leading my Distritt. All I can say is I've done my best" and once again thank you one and all for your friendship and continued support in making our District what it is. Over the past year, the squirrels in the Lilford Distrirt have shown significant growth and enthusiasm, rnarked by the establishment of two new dreys. The introduction of scouting to Younger individuals in Lilford has been met with great excitement. Recruitment for scouts has been strong, although attratting new leaders has been a slower process. Nonetheless, the outlook for the coming year remains positive. 18th Leigh have gone from strength to strength this past year, they have joined the whole group on a sleepover at Dunham Park, been to see a pantomime, as well as several trips to Charlie Park. During the sessions they have all been workin8 hard toward their'Golden Acorn, award. The sessions have been engaging and filled with diverse activities, fosterin8 Strong bonds among the young participants, turnin8 strangers into lifelong scouting friends. The 2nd Atherton Squirrel Drey was successfully launched in January 2024 with three new leaders, including one who is entirely new to scoutin& supported by an experienced leader, Nikki. Initially, the drey is limited to 12 members to facilitate manageable intakes over the first two years and then seasonal. The next major intake is scheduled for September, and there is already a waiting list in preparation. The squirrels are mostly invested and actively working through their two-year program towards the 'Golden Acorn, award. They participated in a 'Drey Day, at Waddecar in June, which was filled with numefOUS activities, markin8 a promising start for the new drey. The 9th & 15th Leigh drey opened at the end of June, featuring initial session5 With games designed to help young participants (YP} get acquainted with each other and their leaders. There have also been discussions about their favorite activities and how these can be transformed into badges.
