Independent Examiner's Report for The Trustees of Lawrance Park Recreation Gn)und & Community Association - Charity No.502887 I report on the accounts for the year ended 31 March 2026 which are attached. Respective Re5ponsibilitles of Trustees and Examiner: The Charity's Trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The Trustee5 of the ChaTTty consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144121 of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination Is needed. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts under sertion 14S of the 2011 Act- _ follow the procedures laid down in the general directives 8iven by the Charities Commission under section 145151{bl of the 2011 Art: and 5t3te whether part?cular matters have come to my attention. Basis of Independent Examiner s Report. My examination was carried out in accordance wtth the general dirertSons glven by the Charitles Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the Charity and a comparison of the accounts p￿sented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual itern5 or disclosure5 in the accounts and seeking explanatSons from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is glven as to whether the accounts present a "true and falr vlew" and the report Is Ilmlted to those matters set out in the ststement below. Good evening everyone and welcome to 54th Lawrance Park Recreation Ground and Community Association AGM.

It’s been going a long time, this committee. 54 years is quite an achievement. And throughout those 54 years it has depended on the goodwill of members of the community prepared to give time and effort to ensure the hall and grounds have been well maintained, safe and available for use by the general public.

When the hall was planned in the late 60s, early70s, the world was a different place. Pre computers and the Internet more entertainment centred around local venues including community centres and the pub. I moved to the village 42 years ago and the hall was then a hive of activity with various groups using the facilities during the week then weddings, dances and celebrations at the weekends. Today there are less group activities within the village despite it having increased greatly in size. Many of the original organisations started in those early days no longer exist or have fewer but older members. Luckily new ones have appeared-Kid’s Club, Tai Kwan-do and Tigers Football have replaced the Bowls, Badminton and Cricket clubs but the hall is no longer such a centre of village life. Times change. Who would have thought all those years ago that the town centre would now be full of charity shops, hairdressers and cafes instead of greengrocers, butchers and bakers? Why go out to the Community Hall when you can stay in and watch whatever you want on the giant screen television lounging in your comfy chair?

However despite the many changes to everyday life the need for a committee to run Lawrance Park has not changed. We

may have fewer lettings but the ones we have need looking after. We work hard to keep our ageing hall in good, modern working order and we’ve increased and replaced some equipment in the park and added paths and lighting and are managing our older trees which is proving to be an expensive business

Much of our work would not have been possible without monetary assistance from various sources including grants from schemes and charities. Also we have been very grateful to receive money from the Parish Council yearly to help towards the upkeep of the park and The Causeway Trust has been incredibly generous with funds to allow many projects to happen.

Over the years the committee has had a band of committed members who have put much effort into keeping on top of things. More recently having Colin Murrant take over the unenviable position of treasurer after the loss of John Spooner and steer us around troubled waters has been wonderful. Christine, then Jane as secretary and ‘doer of many jobs’ has kept us organised. Others have played their part providing help, advice, manpower, skills and most importantly time. One person I feel the committee are most indebted to is Alan. He knows how things work and is always willing to use his skills and knowledge to our advantage. Having grown up in the area he has amazing contacts who are drawn on when necessary. He has also gone the extra mile persuading his son Mark to join the committee starting the youth drive to replace us oldies as time dictates.

Lawrance Park of course would not exist without the school. The hall was built in a ‘Chance to Share’ scheme which meant the hall would be shared with the school, the school having use during the school day, giving both the school and community

a much larger space that would befit at that time a small school. We have only had three headteachers during the 54 years although we now deal with an Academy Trust to negotiate costs and purchases. We are fortunate to have Jess Burton to act as negotiator and we are the only school still managing to exist within the original scheme.

Tonight will be my last AGM. I am standing down as I have moved out of the village, Therefore tonight I felt it was very important that I drew attention to how valued the members of Lawrance Park Committee are, and always have been. I’m always shocked that the general public just assume we, that is Lawrance Park, somehow belongs to the school and the hall looks after itself. Little do they know how much hard work and money goes into keeping it user friendly.

I wish you all well and hope the hall continues to thrive and grow and adapt with the changing times. In another 50 years perhaps it will be generating its own electricity and selling it to the National Grid.
