## **Aims, objects and activities:**

To educate the public in the arts and sciences of music with particular reference to music presented by brass bands by means of concerts and other activities to which members of the public shall have access. To provide opportunities for those persons wishing to learn to play a brass band instrument.

To promote the education of brass band music to any interested person, regardless of age, gender, ethnic origin or physical ability, to maintain the tradition of brass banding into the future. We take our organisation out to perform to the public as often as practical to entertain and keep them aware of our existence.

The band is run by a team of dedicated unpaid volunteer members, except for the musical director who reveives expenses. Each playing member pays a subscription each month to contribute to the running costs of the band but they are provided with instruments free of charge.

The trustees recognise the contribution of all these volunteers, without whom the charity would not function

## **Band Activities**

**Competitions**

Shortly before the 2024 contest season the band lost their musical director and as a result of the Regionals Contest were unfortunately relegated to the 4[th] section for the 2025 contest season.

With a new Musical Director appointed the band have turned a corner and were awarded 1[st] place at the NEMBBA own choice contest in November of 2024 and were credited with other placements throughout the year.

## **Concerts and Rehearsals**

Practices have continued to be well attended with almost all seats filled but we are still on the lookout for an additional Bb Bass player.

The band have a series of regular concerts throughout the year with the highlight being Festive Brass at the Crooked Spire in Chesterfield.

## **Support and Fundraising**

The band suffered a devastating loss as a result of Storm Babet back in October of 2023 when the bandroom was flooded causing severe damage to instruments and the destruction of the majority of the music library. Some of the cost of this has been recovered through insurance which is documented in the accounts along with fundraising efforts with additional concerts and donations from supporters of the band.

## **Development Activities**

Three members of the band have undergone safeguard training by attendance at an online training session run by Brass Bands England.

## **Summary and Plans 2025**

Fortunately, the band were able to recover enough to be able to continue in the aftermath of Storm Babet, we are now back in our band room and continue to build on our performances for both contests and concerts throughout the year in 2025.
