## **MIDDLESBROUGH CATHOLIC FELLOWSHIP ANNUAL REPORT NOVEMBER 2023 – OCTOBER**

## **2024**

Thank you to all who support and volunteers for another successful year of Fellowship activities that were carried out both on a Saturday morning and Wednesday evening.

Masses were held thought the year around the diocese and it was good to catch up with friends old and new. Attending mass at Thirsk for the first time and also introduced some parishes we had not attended for a while and a huge thank you to all the priests and parishioners for their kindness and continued hospitality.

## **Clubs**

Weekly clubs ran smoothly throughout the year and Wednesday club is well attended and Saturday Club also going well, throughout this year only one Wednesday night was cancelled due to heating problem. Thanks to all our volunteers who also separately set up various activities ie crafts etc to have people conducting these activities we are very lucky as this enable the groups to enjoy their activities.

## **Transport:**

Both buses continued to be maintained throughout but a special thanks to SP Motors for many years of service and repairs on the buses and we are now using Nigel at Auto Enterprise in Middlesbrough.

**Shop:** The shop continues to trade on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The Shop is always our main source of income at the best of times, and our thanks goes to the group of volunteers for their services to the shop.

## **Activities:**

In September 2024 the autumn fundraiser was held at the 4 Alls and was well attended with a great Elvis tribute from Niall Southall raising vital funds to continue fellowship activities.

December 2024 Pantomime was attended and enjoyed by all and a thank you to the Theatre team for looking after us.

Easter Monday in April saw our Annual Easter Walk take place starting at Albert Park Entrance and finishing at the Holy Name for refreshments and Easter Games.

June 2024 say ‘Pop Goes to the Movies’ held in the 4 Alls which was enjoyed but all our members and their families.

March 2024 AGM held all positions were up for re-election and Steve Purvis stepped down from the committee and we thank Steve for all his hardwork as Treasurer over the years.

This position was taken up by Carole Channa and we also voted on Julia Nestor onto the Committee.. Helper training was carried out in July 2024 for those attending the holiday and a thank you to Theresa for arranging the training.

## **Bereavements:**

Sadly during the past year we had the following bereavements of members of the fellowship:

Also during the past year we lost people that were closely associated to the fellowship: Edit Bayles (Susan Walton’s Aunty)

Kathleen Armstrong who lived in Rotherham but Kathleen’s parents helped to establish the Middlesbrough Fellowship group.

Chris Kelly (Karen Kelly’s brother) John Turnbull (Bernie Turnbull’s husband)

May they rest in peace.

## **Big Birthdays:**

We celebrated some “big” birthdays during the past year. Many congratulations to Theresa Flaherty celebrated her 60[th] birthday and Alison Hannaway celebrated his 50[th] birthday and Helen Passman celebrated her 70[th] birthday.

Lastly, thank you, as always, to our unsung heroes/heroines who do so much behind the scenes to help the Fellowship run smoothly.

Carole for overseeing our accounts. Donna for our end of year accounts. Committee Members, and all our helpers.

Thank you all for making our Fellowship a happy and safe place for our Members.

Providing Activities for People with Special Needs
Chair's Report to Annual General Meeting 9 November 2024
l. The Officers for the Group remai￿ as above, for the forthcoming year.
2. The Group consists of I I regular members and 4 regular &qrers. Other carers
supported on occasions.
The group continues to use Redcar Rugby Club as a base for general Wednesday
evening activities. Our Since￿ thanks are once again offered to the Committee,
Steward and Bar Staff of Redcar Rugby Club for the wann welcome we receive on
these occasions. The Club provides a pool table. and other pub games for the group
and pern]its us to bring in our own food when we wish to do so. On some evenings
mern￿rs of the group generously supply tasty snacks to help celebrate special
occasions. The domino games have become very CoMF￿titive when members
challenge for biscuits as prizes.
During th¢ year every effort is rnade to engage the members in a variety of activities
within the limits of our funds. During the year we have been to pantomime, Earth￿at
Theatre, the cinema and bowling.
The atmosphere of the group on all occasions is full of enthusias￿ friendly and fun-
loving. Members are eager to take part and carers are inspired by the many phone
calls and text messages between evenings out. Members continually express their
thanks wholeheartedly for their activities.
I cannot praise too highly the consistenL freely-given and enthusiastic commiknent of
the carers: Stephen Askins, Paul McGeady. and Fiona Bailey and for the occasional
but much needed support from: Sbane McGeady, Martin Askins, Ann Corey and
Declan McGeady.
The Surnmer evenings allow the group to enjoy a variety of walks around Redcar,
Saltburn and the Tees Barrage. The Redcar group regularly joins the Middlesbrough
Group for Fellowship Masses on the third Sunday of each month.
Incidents of concern
There were no recorded incidents, accidents, or causes of concern recorded this year.
