## **MIDDLESBROUGH CATHOLIC FELLOWSHIP ANNUAL REPORT NOV 22 – OCT 23**

All clubs ran through 2022 – October 2023 with breaks over the Christmas, Easter and school holidays.

Masses were held thought the year around the diocese and it was good to catch up with friends old and new. The Easter Walk and Fundraising Events went ahead and were well supported. A few trips to the theatre were planned throughout the year and also the Summer holiday took place a five day holiday at Wyedale Hall, Brompton by Sawdon.

## **Clubs:**

All clubs ran smoothly throughout the year and Wednesday club is well attended and Wednesday Club introduced a new member Amy Trigg.

All members were given either a Christmas present or £20 to choose their own and attended the Theatre to see the pantomime ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ in December 2022. And as usual we were well looked after by Middlesbrough Theatre staff.

In January 2023 the Saturday morning club moved venues from The Holy Name to St Thomas Moore and we thank both the parishes for their ongoing support.

## **Transport:**

In June 2023 we said goodbye to the white bus and this was then replaced with a new white bus, Mercedes Sprinter.

**Shop:** The shop continues to open Monday, Wednesday and Friday and there is no longer a van now for the shop as we did not have a regular driver but we have now a contact in place with local waste disposal company. The Shop is always our main source of income at the best of times, and thank you to Betty, Jean, Helen, Ann, Gaynor, Linda, Marilyn and Sheila and all the other helpers for their hard work in making our Shop such a success.

## **Activities:**

October 11th the autumn fundraiser was held at the 4 Alls and was well attended with a great Elvis tribute from Niall Southall raising vital funds to continue fellowship activities.

December 2022 Pantomime was attended and enjoyed by all – Jack and the Beanstalk. April 2023 all attended Grease at Darlington Hippodrome.

Monday, 10[th] April saw our Annual Easter Walk take place starting at Albert Park Entrance and finishing at the Holy Name for refreshments and Easter Games.

March 2023 AGM held all positions were up for re-election and Andrew Gardner stepped down from the committee and we thank Andrew for all his hardwork whilst on the Committee. This position was taken up by Mark Readshaw as Vice Chairman. In May 2023 on a Wednesday evening we had a craft session celebrating the Coronation.

Helper training was carried out in July 2023 for those attending the holiday and a thank you to Theresa for arranging the training and to Annette Heath JD Training Solutions for facilitating this.

Dominic Jones attended the monthly ‘Music for Mind’ a dementia friendly multi faith service and signed the hymn ‘I the Lord of Sea and Sky’ for the congregation.

## **Chair's Report to Annual General Meeting 8 November 2023**

1. The Officers for the Group remain, as above, for the forthcoming year.

2. The Group consists of 11 regular members and 3 regular carers. Other carers supported on occasions.

The group continues to use Redcar Rugby Club as a base for general Wednesday evening activities. Our sincere thanks are once again offered to the Committee, Steward and Bar Staff of Redcar Rugby Club for the warm welcome we receive on these occasions. The Club provides a pool table, and other pub games for the group and permits us to bring in our own food when we wish to do so. On some evenings members of the group generously supply tasty snacks to help celebrate special occasions. During the year every effort is made to engage the members in a variety of activities within the limits of our funds. Throughout the winter months the group engaged in very competitive games of dominoes and ‘Chase the Ace’

The atmosphere of the group on all occasions is full of enthusiasm, friendly and funloving. Members are eager to take part and carers are inspired by the many phone calls and text messages between evenings out. Members continually express their thanks wholeheartedly for their activities.

I cannot praise too highly the consistent, freely-given and enthusiastic commitment of the carers: Stephen Askins and Paul McGeady, and for the occasional but much needed support from: Shane McGeady, Martin Askins, Ann Corey and Declan McGeady.

The Summer evenings allow the group to enjoy a variety of walks around Redcar, Saltburn and the Tees Barrage. The Redcar group regularly joins the Middlesbrough Group for Fellowship Masses on the third Sunday of each month.

## **Incidents of concern**
