MIDDLESBROUGH CATHOLIC FELLOWSHIP ANNUAL REPORT 2020
Covid 19:
All clubs, Masses, holidays, days out (Easter Walk) and other activities have been suspended due to Covid 19 Lockdowns.
Since August 2020 we have been able to live-stream our monthly Mass from St Mary’s Cathedral, Middlesbrough. We are very grateful to Mgr Gerard Robinson for accommodating us in this way, and for saying the majority of the Masses for us. It have been fantastic to celebrate the Eucharist for our members and friends, many thanks to all involved, I know a lot of people have taken a great deal of joy from hearing or seeing (on film) our Fellowship members offering their bidding prayers.
Meetings have been held with a view to developing Covid safe protocols for all our activities when they resume.
Clubs:
The Saturday Morning group vacated the hall temporarily to allow for renovations and re-decoration to take place. The equipment is currently stored in the Chair’s garage.
All members were given a Christmas present to the value of approximately £30 as we incurred no party or pantomime costs.
Transport:
Although the transport has not been in regular use, it has been kept taxed, insured and maintained throughout. The exception being the lifts, where we have allowed their LOLER certificates to expire. Billy has very kindly been taking the buses for occasional runs to stop them seizing up, and to help maintain battery health. The shop van has been in use when lockdowns have permitted. Dashcams have been purchased for all the vehicles; these will be fitted when they are to be in regular use again.
Shop: The Shop has had its activities curtailed by the Covid 19 restrictions this year. Money has been spent on screens and a “fogger” machine to ensure all are kept safe when it is open. The shop has been open when national lockdown rules permitted; though we have decided for the time being not to pick up or drop off any shop items.
The Shop is always our main source of income at the best of times, but during Covid 19 this has been particularly so. Thank you to Betty, Jean, Helen and other helpers and drivers for their hard work in making our Shop such a success.
Activities:
1 of 2
All activities throughout the year were cancelled, including the Easter Social Evening, the Easter Walk, the Christmas parties and the pantomime.
We look forward to the time when we can share happy events with all our members and helpers.
Holidays:
Both holidays this year were cancelled.
Fundraising:
We were unable to organise any fundraising events and were entirely dependent on donations – thank you very much to all who donated.
Big thanks must go to Tyler-Jane Tosh who made and sold face masks to raise money for the Fellowship. In total she raised more than £700, so thanks very much Tyler!
Other Business:
Sadly we had bereavements during the year.
Alison McDermott Malcolm Hudson Karen Logan Peter Lowe Sheila Taylor Val Towse Winnie Hardy Betty Fernie Stewart Aspery Michael Oliver Sheila McMann Stella Rimmer
May they rest in peace.
There was some good news also, just before last year’s AGM Emma Shaw gave birth to a daughter, and future Fellowship helper, Mary Elizabeth. Many congratulations to Bob and Emma
‘Lastly, thank you, as always, to our unsung heroes/heroines who do so much behind the scenes to help the Fellowship run smoothly.
Shop workers previously named. Steve and Jean for overseeing our accounts. Donna for our end of year accounts. Committee Members, and all our helpers.
Thank you all for making our Fellowship a happy and safe place for our Members.

Chair's Report to Annual General Meeting 7 November 2020
-
The Officers for the Group remain, as above, for the forthcoming year.
-
The Group consists of 11 regular members and 3 regular carers. Other carers supported on occasions.
-
3.The group had the very sad occasion at the death Peter Lowe, a long-standing and much missed member. Peter contracted cancer, but retained his normal positive, pleasant and humorous personality up to the end. The group spent a very sociable and enjoyable afternoon at Shane McGeady’s home making and (especially) eating pizzas. Peter managed to attend this and indeed was the only group activity during the Covid period. Our warmest thanks to Shane, Krasna and their boys for their welcome.
The group continues to use Redcar Rugby Club as a base for general Wednesday evening activities. Our sincere thanks are once again offered to the Committee, Steward and Bar Staff of Redcar Rugby Club for the warm welcome we receive on these occasions. The Club provides a pool table, and other pub games for the group and permits us to bring in our own food when we wish to do so. On some evenings members of the group generously supply tasty snacks to help celebrate special occasions.
During the year every effort is made to engage the members in a variety of activities within the limits of our funds.
There were visits to the Earthbeat Theatre in Saltburn to see a performances in which members of the group were participating; the group also attended the seasonal pantomime at Middlesbrough Little Theatre ; we joined the Middlesbrough group for their Christmas at their kind invitation in the Western Club.and we had an evening at the Hollywood Bowl which is always an interesting exercise in dividing the group into two very competitive groups. For all these activities we are indebted for transport to the carers and friends who kindly and generously convey members in their own cars at no cost to the group.
The atmosphere of the group on all occasions is full of enthusiasm, friendly and funloving. Members are eager to take part and carers are inspired by the many phone calls and text messages between evenings out. Members continually express their thanks wholeheartedly for their activities.
Members make contributions on evenings when the cost of events would be too much for the group’s funds to stand over the year.
I cannot praise too highly the consistent, freely-given and enthusiastic commitment of the carers: Stephen Askins and Paul McGeady, and for the occasional but much needed support from: Shane McGeady, Martin Askins, , and Ann Corey. Unfortunately COVID brought an end to activities since March 2020. But members have used social media, text and phone to keep in touch.
Incidents of concern
There were no recorded incidents, accidents, or causes of concern during this year.
