Objectives of the Trust Fund
The objectives of the Trust Fund are as set out in the Trust Deed dated 12 January 1971
“To apply both the capital and the income thereof to or for the relief of the poor and needy or such other charitable purposes, institution, society or object as the Club in duly constituted meeting from time to time may direct.”
Moneys may be applied locally, regionally, nationally, or internationally:

(1) Assistance of any registered charitable institution or society operating within UK or abroad

(2) Support for community projects or registered charities within UK or overseas

(3) The advancement of education, learning and knowledge through the assistance of groups, societies and individuals
-
(4) Purposes beneficial to the community through
-
(a) assistance to the elderly and infirm
-
(b) assistance to the sick and suffering
-
(c) provision of moneys for the long term improvement of the environment
Trustees
The Trustees are presently: David Chapman, John Armistead, Colin Woodhead and Judith Drury.
Organisation and Responsibilities

(1) The day-to-day financial and administrative affairs of the Trust are dealt with by the Club Treasurer, who is also responsible for the preparation of annual accounts and regular management reports.

(2) The Annual Accounts of the Trust (to 30 June 2024) were reviewed by Mr David Rhodes, who is an Associate Member of the Chartered Insurance Institute and also is deemed qualified by experience, having previously been the Treasurer of this Club.

(3) The Trust bank accounts are held by Barclays Bank plc at St Nicholas Street, Scarborough.

(4) The Trust owns a property known as Rotary House, Peasholm Drive, Scarborough. Purchased in 1971 at a cost of £9,688, it is currently leased to
The Wilf Ward Trust. The freehold value is believed to be well in excess of the original cost.

(5) The Trust holds no investments in stocks, shares, or similar instrument.

(6) Apart from the Annual General Meeting the Trustees met four times on a formal basis during the year, although any matters arising are normally dealt with by the Club Council (which includes two of the Trustees) at its regular monthly meetings which include ratification of decisions relating to the application of moneys as determined by the Community Service Committee or by the Club as a whole

(7) As members of the Rotary Club of Scarborough the Trustees and officers serve on a voluntary basis and receive no payment.
Activities

(1) During the year ending 30 June 2024 the Trust Fund received income from fund raising activities organised by Rotary Club of Scarborough.

(2) Donations by members were remitted to Rotary Foundation, supplemented by further donations to the Rotary International Polio Plus fund.

(3) Moneys received from other Rotary Clubs in connection with the Carers
-
Scheme are restricted to use for the provision of holidays for carers.

(4) As well as dedicated moneys as per (3) above there is a specific reserve to address likely future costs relating to Rotary House. Also, appropriate reserves are maintained for specific projects, but sufficient funds are normally maintained to enable quick response to urgent disaster appeals, within UK or abroad, which would be in addition to any dedicated fund raising for such appeals. Moneys are otherwise applied for humanitarian or educational purposes.
