Our aims and objectives

To provide football opportunities both domestically and internationally for people with limb loss or limb deficiency throughout England

Our main objectives carried out this year:

Achievements

The charity is growing again with the formation of the women’s national team, they participated in an international camp and domestic training days

The men’s national team took part in international friendly matches and where successful in winning the first international honour in over 34 years winning the Nation’s league which is a fantastic achievement.

The junior programme is growing with more children attending each camp and we sent a number of junior amputees over to an international camp in Warsaw Poland.

Domestically we had 4 teams compete in the national league and cup competitions throughout the season, a talent identification was put in place.

EAFA chairman and volunteers took part in the World Amputee Football Federation and the European Amputee Football Federation congresses,

Delivering presentations at each event, EAFA are one of the leading countries for amputee football development and took part in all of the WAFF and EAFF activities.

EAFA held its annual awards evening where players and volunteers were recognised for their outstanding achievements throughout the year.

EAFA volunteers attended the Limb Power games in Stoke Manderville to deliver football activities and awareness sessions for amputees of all ages

EAFA held CPD events (Continuing Professional Development) for referee to grow the number of qualified officials in the game

England Amputee Men’s National team

It was a brilliant year for the men’s national amputee team with new coaching staff Scott Rodgers and Mark Dolan at the helm.

Throughout the year the men’s national team delivered monthly weekend training camps where the players were prepared for the international competition.

In May 2023 the team fly to Ireland and took part in friendly matches against a strong Irish team winning one game and narrowly losing another fixture.

In June England travelled to Krakow Poland to participate in the inaugural Nations League event.

In their first match they defeated Turkey 1-0 with a deflected David Tweed goal, the first time we have defeated Turkey for a number of years, Turkey who have recently been World and European champions

In their second Match England played the hosts Poland and despite going a goal down early, Rhyce Ramsden equalised with a volley and David Tweed scored the winning goal after a mazy run by Jamie Tregaskiss.

In the final game England defeated Spain 1-0 with a penalty from Rhyce Ramsden to win the Nations league.

This is the first major trophy and major milestone that the England amputee football team have won since winning the world cup in 1990.

In September England travelled to Warsaw Poland to compete in the Amp cup England played against the USA, Costa Rica, Japan and Poland, England won 3 and drew against Poland in the last game narrowly losing the competition by 1 goal on goal difference.

A successful year for the team and one to remember with pride and joy

Domestic League

The trustees decided to concentrate on international rules league which meant all outfield players played on crutches and the goalkeeper has to be a single arm amputee.

So the league had 4 teams for this season the teams were Everton Portsmouth, Chelsea and Arsenal.

A number of league fixture dates were played including 2 domestic cup competitions and the national Disability cup.

All four trophies were dominated by Everton and Portsmouth each winning 2 trophies.

Everton won the league on the last fixture date defeating Portsmouth who had led most of the season into runners up spot, Everton qualified for the Champions League the following season.

The Disability cup final that was shown live on BT sport and was a great advert for amputee football in this Country, this was played between Everton and Portsmouth.

In a fantastic game of football Everton triumphed 4-1 with some well worked goals and great finishing.

In the other 2 EAFA cup competitions Portsmouth dominated winning both finals one on penalties to claim a cup double!

Junior programme

The junior programme goes from strength to strength with more juniors being found through social media.

We have over 100 juniors on our database with over 40 juniors attending each bi-monthly training weekend.

The training camps give the children to socially interact with other children who have a similar disability, they also learn valuable football skills as well as improving communication skills and co-ordination skills.

For the parents it is a good social and support network as well as a respite and great to see their children having a great time.

In August EAFA sent 18 young amputees to an international junior camp that was held in Warsaw Poland, they joined young amputee from all over Europe to make new friends, learn new skills.

As part of the junior project we have developed a talent identification pathway, children who have potential and are progressing are given extra coaching sessions and are linked to amputee specific or grass roots clubs.

Women's football development

A new part of what we deliver is football opportunities for female amputees, during this year we have put on coaching days with an end goal of having a women’s national team.

We already have some female that play in the domestic amputee league are aim is put in place a pathway from grass roots to international level for female amputees

In March we sent some of our players to Ghent in Belgium to participate in a training camp with other females from around Europe organised by the European Amputee Football Federation

The aim of this is to put an England female team in the World Cup competition which will be held in 2024.

Volunteers

Volunteers are the life blood of the charity with no paid staff we rely on volunteers to deliver the various elements of work that EAFA delivers many of them are experts in what their field of work.

The charity would like to celebrate and thank every volunteer for their contributions over the year.
