REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES
For the year eDded 30 S¢pl¢Jnber 2024
The Trustee5 present our report for the year end￿ 30 September 2024 together with the Charity's financial stat¢ments.
The financial statements have IKen prepared in ¥cordance with the accounting policies set out in note I to th¢ financial
5tatement5 and comply with the Charity's trust deed. The TTU5tees have adopted th¢ provisions of th¢ Siatement of
Recommended Pr&ctiG¢ (SORP) "Acwunling and Reporting by Charities" (FRS102) (Second edition) in preparing th¢
annual report gnd financial statements of the Charity.
THE CHAR￿y's OBJECTS AND ITS RELATIONSIIIP WITH THE CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS,
COMPANY
The fonnal legal objccts of the Charity are set oul on page l. The Charity is closely associated with Th¢ Chartered
Accountants, Company and virtually all its donation incotne is r￿e1Ved direcdy or indirectly from present and past
members of the Cornpany.
The Thistees 3r¢ an indep¢nd¢nt body. mindful of our duty as Trustees of a charity operating in the public interest, while
Iways supportive of the objectAves of the Company whose member8 provide the C.harity's funds. The Comp4ny's
practical obje¢tive5 set out in i(¥ Mi55ion Statement include givin8 something baGk to soci¢lyi diTCCting members, efforts
d ￿ndS lo relevant sustainable causes and communities and leveraging the skills and experience of its mcmbcrs.
Deliv¢ry against the Company's mission is th¢ responsibility of the Compl￿Y'S Master. Court &nd members. This separaie
Charity 15 a vehicle through which Company members can fulfil their financial obligations within the ¢haritable mission.
The Company's Almoner and the Tntstees are v¢ry awarc of the Company's and the Court's objectives, but as Trustees
think and act indep¢ndently of them. We are aware that there are potcntial conflicL8 c)f Inte￿$1 and conflicts of loyalty in
relation lo our duties to the Charily and thc Company and seek to avoid or manage those conflicts.. mu￿ ¥cncrally, the
TTUStees' conduct 18 £uidcd by the seven prin¢iples of th¢ Charity Gov¢rnan¢¢ Code: organisational purpose; leadership;
integrity: de¢i5ion makin¥1 risk and control; board effectiveness: equality. diversity and inclusion: and openness and
accountability. 'lThc Trustees recognise our duty to keep up to date wilh dcv¢lopments in charity law. We act approprialely
in relation lo any conflict of intLrest. New Trustees receive an induction pack describing th¢ activifies of Ihtt Charity and
Trnslees, responsibilities.
FUNDRAISINC
As slated, almost all th¢ Charity's donation income corn¢s from Company mernbers. When prospective Company
members are interviewed, they learn that in normal circumstances Company members are expected to make an annual
gift to this Charity which, belore gift aid is addcd, is roughly ¢quivalent to the quarteragc payable to the Company.
A lower contribution is expecled from thos¢ members who are undcr 40.
The Charity has successfi]Ily aKumulated an expendable endowment fund, currently in excess of £2.2 million, but
incrcasing the charity's impact will only be a85UTed if this capital fund is Ancre&8ed substantially over time. F.ach year the
Charity expccts to distribute most of th¢ annual donations Érom members plus the incom¥ ¥LnLratLd from the exi.sting
apital fund. To ¢xt¢nd our ¢hJritable rcach (and there is a Gontinuin8 and incr¢asin8 demand from worthwhile cause$)
we need to increase our ¢apital fund and thu5 generate more income. The Charity can only do that if members give us
capital donations and Icavc us Ic8acies in their wills.
To aid this proce55, on 8 July 2021, thc T￿Stee5 cr¢ated a separate fund- to be known as The Cork Fund (named after
Sir Kenneth Cork a founder member of the Livery Company who was Lord Mayor in 1978-79). The le8acies and
donations made to this Fund, although remaining part of the expendable endowm¢nt of the Charity, are intendcd to be
retained &$ ¢apital to gcnerate income to supplLment and increase the annual fund5 8vailable for distribution. It is hoped
that members will leave l¢gacics and make one-off donations lo the Cork Fund so that il bccomcs a significant part of the
apital base for the Charity. We are delighted and most grateful to have received £13,643 in l¢84cies ond donations in the
l&st year to the Cork Fund.

RISK MANAGEMENr
The TNstees regularly review the m&jor strategic, financial, business and operational risks which the Charity faces. Wc
have ¢onsidered lh¢ vulnerability of the Charity to factors which could seriously impair its ability lo achieve its objectives
and have ensured that the Charity's Systems enable these risks to be managed. The main income sources are donations,
including Gift Aid tax re¢overy, and investment income. The ability of the Chartty to make grRnts at the current level is
dependent on membcrs of The Chartered A(counlants' Company ￿ntinuing to maintain th¢ir level of giving and on th¢
stability of investment income.
FirruRE PLATrIS
The Trustees felt strongly that A key objective of any grdnt w¢ make is that it makes a diff¢rence to the organisation. We
8150 wish to maintain the present l¢vels of grant giving for the year to 30 September 2025 but to do this we do need our
very generous m¢mb¢rs to carry on making donations ￿ the Charity. We asked that our memb¢rs review what they are
giving and just see if they could give a little more. There are so many worthy Gauses who need help. and we would d¢arly
like to help as many causes as possible to relaled to the City of London and to cau$¢$ introduced by members.
We are continuing to promote the Cork Club to ask members to consider leavin8 a legacy to the Charity in their wills,
We are delighicd that members and fornier manbcrs left legacies and gave donation5 loialling £13,643 during the year.
