Annual Report for Logos Trust (Charity no. 326624) 1 April 2023-30 March 2024
Charity Objectives
Logos Trust exists to make gifts and donations to:
-
assist and support church missionaries, charitable organisations and individuals in the propagation of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ;
-
assist in the training of pastors and missionaries; and
-
help any Christian person who may be in financial need in the opinion of the trustees.
It is the policy of the Trustees to support those organisations subscribing to an evangelical basis of faith (in line with the convictions of the trustees). It is also our policy to ask individuals to supply a reference from an evangelical church in support of their application. This is to provide assurance that grants are used in accordance with the Trust’s objectives.
Achievements in the financial year
Logos Trust has made grants to other charities totalling £8,750 during the year, and to individual students/mission workers/needy people totalling £4,450. This support has enabled individuals and organisations to serve the public good through, for example:
-
work with the homeless and vulnerable (London City Mission);
-
support for local churches with youth programmes and ministries for older people;
-
enabling people to train for church/mission work that will benefit individuals and communities in the future; and
-
support for pastoral care among the armed forces (SASRA).
Financial Review
The accounts of Logos Trust for 2023-24 are produced on a receipts and payments basis. This is the first year that the charity has had an income exceeding £25,000 (the threshold for submitting accounts to the Charity Commission) and so this is the first formal Trustees’ Report.
The charity’s income for the year was £25,737 (2022-23: £8,750). This increase was due to a one-off legacy of £10,000, higher interest rates on investments, and increased gift aid donations.
The charity’s expenditure was £13,269 (2022-23: £9,656). The increase was due to additional support for students and ministry trainees, and for local churches, who have needed greater help during the cost of living crisis.
There was a surplus of income over expenditure of £12,468 (2022-23: deficit £905). The surplus was due to the legacy arriving late in the financial year, and the increased investment income.
Overall funds amount to £105,145 (2022-23: £92,678). The Trustees intend to continue to increase grants paid to reduce the level of reserves. In the meantime, the reserves are invested prudently to maximise the level of investment income.
Conclusion
I am grateful to God for the privilege of being part of Logos Trust and having the opportunity to support students, trainees, missionaries and charities in their work. It is humbling to receive positive feedback from grant recipients sharing how the grants have helped them.
I look forward to Logos Trust continuing its grant-making work in the coming years.
