The trustees who are also directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006, present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31st December 2021. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives and aims
The company's principal aim is to use the power of storytelling to drive real world action for a more sustainable future. For more than 35 years, tve has been pioneering environmental storytelling, educating millions of people around the world about the challenges facing our planet, their impact on people and what can be done differently.
tve fulfils its charitable objectives by producing, co-producing and distributing audit-visual content about the management, conservation and sustainable development of our natural resources in order to build a greener, more just world. We also undertake research and develop tools, strategies and platforms to help others more effectively communicate about environmental issues.
Public benefit
In shaping our objectives and planning our activities for the year, the Trustees have given consideration to the duties set out in Section 17(5) of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the public benefit and to the Charity Commission Guidance on public benefit. In particular, the Trustees have considered how the planned activities will contribute to the overall aims and objectives that they have set. The trustees believe that paragraphs , specifically on Objectives and Aims and charitable activities for the year , relate in detail the benefit that tve provides to the public.
Volunteers
The Charity is extremely grateful for the support of all volunteers who helped the Charity during the year. The value of the Charity of the work of volunteers is estimated as in excess of £12,000.
ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFIORMANCE DURING 2021
Charitable activities
tve’s mission is to use the power of storytelling to drive real world action for a more sustainable future. For more than 35 years, tve has been pioneering environmental storytelling, educating millions of people around the world with the challenges facing our planet and how they impact people. We do this both by producing effective audio-visual programming about environmental issues and also by supporting others to do so in an effective manner.
tve began 2021 with a series of online Masterclasses sessions enabling Award winning film makers such as Pippa Erlich and Sebastian Pins to reach out to young audiences across 26 countries. These were online interactive sessions and was vital tve work to encourage and empower young people to create films and content on pressing environmental and sustainability issues

Charitable activities (contd..)
In May 2021 tve re-initiated its 'BioMovies' project enabling young people from across the world to make and submit their short films on issues to be raised at the COP26 summit in Glasgow in November 2021. tve secured a media partnership in the "Innovation Zone" with Climate Action group at the Glasgow COP26 summit. This partnership enabled tve to showcase these young people's innovative ideas at COP26. tve invited three shortlisted young people to the Summit to present their ideas and showcase their films. This particular initiative generated interest from 1500 individuals from 22 countries.
Between the months of March and September 2021 recruited and appointed 5 new Trustees. From varying backgrounds they bring with them a wealth of experience and skills as well as contacts to complement the existing Board. They are also truly representative of the global nature of the organisation as tve now has Trustees from India, Germany, United States and the United Kingdom.
Developing our distribution network for the vital films in our archives has been another focus for tve in 2021. Re-emerging from the covid-19 pandemic tve has been building new relationships across various countries to enable it to distribute its content to a wider audience. tve signed a new partnership with 'TVCultura’ of Brazil to broadcast tve's content across universities in that country. tve also renewed its contract with Bullfrog Films to distribute its films in the North American region.
Tve continues to see the development of our social channels and website as a key pillar of our strategy so that the content we produce and curate reaches the widest possible global audience. Our 4 Youtube channels which include our archives, the tve GSFA , the tve biomovies channel and our main tve channel continued to receive high traffic, demonstrating the longevity of the content we produce and curate . Together, these channels received 1,233,899 views during 2021. Our Facebook , Instagram and twitter presence continues to share news of our events and competitions and has increased the views of our videos. We saw engagements (e.g., comments, likes and sharing of our posts ) at 22,212 with 203,344 impressions . Out tve.org website received over17,560 views over the past year
During 2021 tve also held a number of events including the tve charity golf day at RAC Epsom led by tve Trustee Azad Ayub. There was also a Panel discussion event on UK-China Collaboration in Film TV & Media for Global Sustainability . this involved the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Fund who broadcast the discussion to their network in China. A Diwali and COP 26 Celebration event was also held.
In December 2021 tve held its 10th Anniversary Global Sustainability Film Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner at BAFTA. This physical event was well attended and much welcomed following the end of the pandemic. tve had an impressive 112 film entries from around the world. Our thanks to the sponsors, Blockchain World, Azad Ayub Limited and tve President Surina Narula MBE who also provided help by her team in India and the UK to help make it a successful event.
In the past year tve has also been digitizing its wealth of films and documentaries built up over the 39 years since tve was founded. 3,200 films from its archives were digitized during 2021. This is an ongoing exercise to create an online tve library to be made widely available to all and efforts are being made in the current year to raise funds for this important work to be continued f

Reserves policy
The Trustees continue to review the level of reserves closely to ensure that they are adequate to support the continuation of the organization and have set the target of unrestricted funds to meet 3 months of running costs. tve is still having to work hard to raise funds which were depleted as a result of the impact of Covid 19 in 2020
STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
Governing document
The organisation is a charitable company limited by guarantee, incorporated on 25 April 1984 and registered as a Charity on 22 May 1984.
The company was established under a Memorandum of Association which established the objects and powers of the charitable company and is governed under its Articles of Association. Under these Articles, the Trustees are elected at the Annual General Meeting to serve for a period of four years, up to a maximum of eight years.
The members have guarantee to contribute a maximum of £1 each in the event of the company being wound up.
Trustees Board
The members of the Trustees Board who served during the year are shown in Reference and Administrative Details. The members of the Trustees Board fulfil the same function as Directors under the Companies Acts. The Board has the power to appoint additional members as it considers fit to do so.
Recruitment, induction and training of new members
Recruitment takes place on an annual basis via a nomination process whereby current Trustees can suggest suitable potential new members. The candidates are discussed by the Board and once agreement is reached invitations are issued. Members serve initially for a period of four years. An induction programme is available to all new members.
Organisation structure
The Charity is run by the Trustees with the day to day running delegated to a few Trustees and the part time Head of Operations, Karma Wangdi. The Board of Trustees when needed to deal with strategic and operational matters affecting the charity.

There is one organisation that is connected to the Trust by reason of common control – TVE, Television Trust for the Environment which is separately constituted and registered in the USA. There were no transactions with TVE, Television Trust for the Environment in the year (2020: £Nil).
Risk management
The Executive Board has examined the major strategic, business and operational risks that the Charity faces and confirm that the necessary procedures and controls are in place to mitigate these risks. The risks to which the Charity is exposed are reviewed on a timely basis and action taken accordingly.

STATEMENT OF TRUSTEES’ RESPONSIBILITIES
The trustees (who are also directors of Television for the Environment for the purposes of company law) are responsible for preparing the Report of the Trustees and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).
Company law requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charitable company and of the incoming resources and application of resources, including the income and expenditure, of the charitable company for that period. In preparing those financial statements, the trustees are required to:

Select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;

Observe the methods and principles in the Charity SORP;

Make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;

Prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is appropriate to presume that the charitable company will continue in business.
The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charitable company and to enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Companies Act 2006. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charitable company and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

Independent examiner’s report to the trustee of Television for the Environment (‘the company’)
I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Company for the year ended 31st December 2021.
Responsibilities and basis of report
As the charity’s trustees of the Company (and also its directors for the purposes of company law) you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 (‘the 2006 Act’).
Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the Company are not required to be audited under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of your charity’s accounts as carried out under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the 2011 Act’). In carrying out my examination I have followed the Directors given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5) (b) of the 2011 Act.
Independent examiner’s statement
I have completed my examination. I can confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe:

1) Accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by section 386 of the 2006 Act; or
-
2) The accounts do not accord with those records; or
-
3) The accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirements that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or
-
4) The accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by charities (applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS102)).
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

The charitable company is entitled to exemption from audit under Section 477 of the Companies Act 2006 for the year ended 31st December 2021.
The members have not required the company to obtain an audit of its financial statements for the year ended 31st December 2021 in accordance with Section 476 of the Companies Act 2006.
The trustees acknowledge their responsibilities for:

a) ensuring that the charitable company keeps accounting records that comply with Section 386 and 387 of the Companies Act 2006, and

b) preparing financial statements which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charitable company as at the end of each financial year and of its surplus or deficit for each financial year in accordance with the requirements of Section 394 and 395 and which otherwise comply with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 relating to financial statements, so far as applicable to the charitable company.
These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions applicable to charitable companies subject to the small companies regime.

1) ACCOUNTING POLICIES
Basis of preparing the financial statements
The financial statements of the charitable company, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) ‘ Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)’, Financial Reporting Standard 102 ‘The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland’ and the Companies Act 2006. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.
The Trustees consider that there are no material uncertainties about the charity’s ability to continue as a going concern.
Income
All incoming resources are included in the SOFA when the Charity is legally entitled to the income and it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably. Legal entitlement is considered to be the combination of when the contract for project work is signed by both parties and the contracted costs begin to accrue following work commenced on the project, so as to match the income generated against the costs incurred on each project.
Incoming resources are classified as restricted, designated or unrestricted in accordance with the requirements of SORP 2015.
Restricted incoming resources are those that are subject to special conditions imposed by the funder, and on completion of such a project any unspent funds will be returned to the funder. Designated incoming resources are subject to special conditions imposed by the funder but on completion of such projects any remaining balance is transferred to the General Fund. Unrestricted incoming resources are those funds that are not subject to any restrictions and can be expended at the discretion of the Trustees in furtherance of the Charity’s objectives.
Expenditure
Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accrual basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on the basis consistent with the use of resources.

Taxation
The Charity is considered to pass the tests set out in Paragraph 1 Schedule 6 Finance Act 2010 and therefore it meets the definition of a charitable company for UK Corporation Tax purposes.
Accordingly, the Charity is potentially exempt from taxation in respect of income or capital gains received within categories covered by Chapter 3 Part 11 Corporation Tax Act 2010 or Section 256 of the Taxation of Chargeable Gains Act 1992, to the extent that such income or gains are applied exclusively to charitable purposes.
Fund accounting
Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.
Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.
Further explanation of the nature and purpose of each fund is included in the notes to the financial statements.
Foreign currencies
Assts and liabilities in foreign currencies are translated into sterling at the rates of exchange ruling at the balance sheet date. Transactions in foreign currencies are translated into sterling at the rate of exchange ruling at the date of transaction. Exchange differences are taken into account in arriving at the operating result.
Operating leases
Rentals payable under operating leases are charged to the Statement of Financial Activities in the year in which they are payable.
Film library
The company has a library of films comprising of films made since the formation of the company in 1984. The value of these films to the company is the value of the future income flows that will come from the sale of these films, or footage from them. Owing to the uncertainty of these future flows, no value is ascribed to the film library in these Financial Statements.
