## GOVERNING DOCUMENT

## OBJECTS OF THE TRUST

The Trust was founded in 1983 to promote the advancement of the Christian Religion; to advance public education in the history, theology and spirituality of the Christian Churches in both the East and the West; and, more particularly, to promote lectures, seminars and conferences within the area indicated above, as well as providing a residential centre for research students and senior scholars interested in the aims of the Trust.

The Trust owns a freehold property, 2 Canterbury Road, Oxford OX2 6LU, which is known as The St Theosevia Centre for Christian Spirituality and which has, as its residents, 7 theological students . Its meeting room contains the library of the Fellowship of St Alban and St Sergius, consisting of books on the Christian East and on Christian Unity; these are accessible for consultation by anyone working in these fields.

## TRUSTEES

The Trustees are meet three times per annum, once in each University term, and members of the Council who are not Trustees join them immediately after for full Council meetings.

## REVIEW OF ACTIVITIES

All the rooms in the house have been let throughout the academic year to postgraduates, mainly from outside the United Kingdom. A licence is held by the Treasurer under the regulations applied by Oxford City Council for Houses in Multiple Occupation.

During the year ended 31st March 2021 the Trust was unable to organise any events due to the restrictions imposed regarding the coronavirus pandemic.

Discussions are continuing with the Trustees of St Gregory and St Macrina; and the Fellowship of St Alban and St Sergius, with a view to combining the three charities. Little progress was achieved during the year.

The current reserves of the Trust stand at £101140 and are considered adequate to meet the current needs of the Trust.

The Trust’s property at 2, Canterbury Road appears in good condition. Major repairs amounted to £2227 during the year.

Signed on behalf of the Trustees…………………………………………………………………………….

## **THE TRUSTEES OF ST THEOSEVIA TRUST, OXFORD**

## **INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES**

I report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 31 March 2021 which are set out on the adjacent pages.

## **Respective responsibilities of the Trustees and examiner**

As the Trustees you are responsible for the preparation of accounts; you consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

- Examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act;

- To follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145 (5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and

- To state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

## **Basis of the independent examiner’s report**

My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. That examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the Trustees and comparison of the accounts with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from the Trustees concerning such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence which would be required in an audit and, consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

## **Independent examiner’s statement**

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

1. Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements

   - To keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; and

   - To prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act

have not been met; or

2. To which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
