Bishop Douglass School Home-School Association Trustees’ Report For The Year Ended 31 July 2025

The trustees present their report and the financial statements for the year ended 31 July 2025.

Objectives and Activities

Aims and Objectives

The objective of the Association is to advance the education of the pupils at the Schoo! by providing and assisting in the provision of facilities for education at the Schoo! (not normally provided by the local Education Authority) and as ancillary thereto and in furtherance thereof, the Association may:

(i) Foster closer relationships between the staff, parents and others associated with the School and

(ii) Engage in activities which support the School and advance the education of the pupils attending It.

Public Benefit

The Bishop Douglass Schoo!-Home School Association exists to advance the education of pupils at Bishop Douglass School by providing and assisting in the provision of facilities and resources not normally provided by the local education authority. In planning and carrying out its activities during the year, the Management Committee has had due regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit and is satisfied that all activities undertaken furthered the Association's charitable purposes for the benefit of the pupils of the School.

The Association's activities and expenditure were directed towards improving educational opportunities, supporting pupils’ welfare and enhancing the wider school experience. The Management Committee considers that the Association's work provides clear public benefit by enabling pupils to participate more fully in educational, sporting and extracurricular activities, thereby contributing positively to their educational and personal development.

The trustees confirm that they have complied with the requirements of Section 17 of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit.

Achievements and Performance

Main Achievements

A significant achievement during the year was the receipt of an anonymous donation of £80,000 on the 7th November 2024, and a previously received donation of £49,846 on the 14th May 2024, which has now been included in the detailed statement of financial activities as a deferred income. This has substantially strengthened the Association's financial position and its ability to support the School. Following careful consideration by the Management Committee, a donation of £27,766 was made to the School to contribute towards the purchase of a new school minibus.

The existing school minibus was in poor condition and no longer fully fit for purpose, which meant that the School frequently had to rely on borrowing minibuses from other sister schools to facilitate educational visits, sporting fixtures and other extracurricular activities. The Association's contribution towards a replacement minibus will enable the School to provide safer and more reliable transport for pupils and will support greater participation in activities that enhance the educational experience of those attending the School.
