the irnpacl if we fail In our task. In any one year, we sland by the 8,500 Jewish slud8nls on campus and w8 supporl the small,
professional t8arn. Equally, we ensurg th8 long-leim slabilily ol UJS. not only to suppoil the students of today, but 10 8nsure UJS
is in a strong position to assist Jewish students in future years. In turn, this wlll benefit th8 futur8 01 Ouf oommunily.
Oovid had a significant irnpacl on Jewlsh studen18, all8cling their mental health as well a5 Ihelr physical h8allh.The impact ol Covid
a180 led to significant culs lo our 8clivitie5, closure ol Hi1181 Houses and the Iransilion to an online provision ol services. As it
happ8n8, in 2019 Ibelore Covidl, UJS Trustees had r8comrn&nded the UJS team become digitally proficient and lor UJS lo be¢om
a 'digital liisl. organisation. Nobody could have lore888n the absolute need lor this, b￿1 il led lo a veiy quick and easy pivot as
Covid hil. Ind8ed, durlng Ihis ygar, w8 8ngaged a million individuals from across the globe and across Ihe spectrum ol Jewish
engagemenl and belief in our online content. UJS produced 2,000 hours ol video ¢onl&nl, hosted 250+ live 8V8nls, and even in a
year ol fully onlin8 8ngagemenl, UJS signed up over 1,100 new m8mbers.
Entgring this year, the piospe¢l ol fundraising seemed lovgh. Chari118s were struggling and in some cases Closing their doors, and
philanlhropis18 W8re slruggling to keep up with the demand. UJS gxp8cled a year where we had lo Thake some exceptionally
tough declsions. But, thanks to the incredibly hard work of the UJS professional teaffl, supported by the Truslees, UJS was not
only abl8 to suivlve, bul lo excg8d our fundraising largel whilst deliverlng superb cont8nt and programming al less cost than
proj8ct8d.

a¢hi8ve this by judicious managernénl ol resources. In addilion, as reported prgViOU51y, the Tru8te8s havg increased lh8
elle¢liv8n8ss ol the lundraising a¢livily ol the ¢haiily with the oble¢live of increasing the reservES.
The total funds held by the chaiily al 30 June 2021 ar8 £1,237,734, 01 which £214,770 are ieslri¢led lunds and
£1,022,964 unreslri¢ted funds availabla for the general purposes ol lh8 eharily. This is in line with thé above policy.
Results
The results for the year, as shown in the Stat8menl ol Financial Actlvitlgs on page 10, show a surplus of £155,298 12020.. surplus
£316,095).
In r8C8nl years slienuous elfoils were made lo reduc8 and ellmlnat8 y8ar on year d8ficits. Over the last 2 years, 2019-20 and 2020-
21, the charity has be8n impacted significantly by Covid-19. In 2019-20 a dBlicil would have been reported bul this was then mor8
than of1881 by a subslanli81 unanli¢ipa18d legacy re¢eiv8d in June 2020 for which w8 are most grat81ul. For 2020-21. with th8
continued uncerlaint18s from Covid-19, the Charity orlglnally mad8 provision lor a dellcil il necessary, in ord8r to provid8 an
appropriate level ol provislon lor 8lud8nt5. In the @vent, judlclous conlrol ol expgndilure more than olf5el reduced income resulting
in a 8urplus. Total income fell to £674,23612020.. £1,082,861), and donalion income lo £649,983 12020.. £1,058,537). We have
continued our locus on increasing donations from trusts and foundations In demanding cir¢umslanc8S.
Total costs further decr8ased by 33%10 £518,93812020.. £766,766 already 35Y* down on prioryearl. ref1eoling th8 cost savings
referred to above and indicated in notgs 4,5 and 6 to the financial slat8rnent5.
