## Buckinghamshire Archaeological Society Discover Bucks Museum Church Street, Aylesbury HP20 2QP Charity Registration number 310525 Trustees’ Annual Report for the period From 1 January 2023 to 31 December 2023 ## Objects and Activities To promote and to foster among the public the study of the architecture, archaeology, geology, botany, genealogy, zoology, topography, heraldry ,numismatics and the general and domestic and natural history and arts of Buckinghamshire ## Main activities Publishes the journal Records of Buckinghamshire Publishes books and papers on the history and archaeology of the county Produces two newsletters annually Preserves and collects important county documents Encourages research Organises a varied winter lecture programme Supports the work of the County Museum Gives informal comment on some planning matters Undertakes investigations at sites providing archaeological interest ## Public benefit The trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit. ## Achievements and Performance The annual “Records of Buckinghamshire” (volume 63) was published in May 2023 The library was open to members of the public each Wednesday for research and consultation. An excavation of the ha-ha at Linford Manor dig was undertaken by members A day long conference was held in October 2023 in conjunction with other archaeological societies in Buckinghamshire. A day long conference was held at which archaeologists involved in the preparation for the construction of HST outlined their activities in Buckinghamshire. ## Structure, Governance and Management The Society (an unincorporated association) is governed by trust deed. Trustees are elected at the Society’s annual general meeting and serve for up to three years. ## Financial Review The Society’s net assets at 31 December 2023 totalled £106,759. This includes restricted funds of £10,542 which have been set aside for specific purposes and a contingency reserve of £64,902 allocated to meet future expenditure on the freehold property owned by the Society. ## Serious Incidents There were no serios incidents in the year to 31 December 2023 Buckinghamshire Archaeological Society Independent Examiner's Report to the trustees on the accounts forthe year ended 31 December 2023 The report covers the accouiits for the year ended 31 December 2023 as set out in the following pages. The trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an Inde[￿ndent cxamination is needed. It is my responsibility to Examine the accounts under Section 345 of the 201 l Act To follow tlie procedures laid down in the general directions given by the Charity Commission under Section 145 (5Kb) of the 2011 Act and To state whether particular matters have come to my attention Basis of Independent Examiner's report My examination was carried out in accordance with genernl directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a revTew of the a￿oUntIng records kept by the charity and comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unu8ual item8 of disclosure in the accounts and seeking explanations from the truste¢s conccrning any such matters . The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evideiice tliat would be required in Etn audit and con.8equcntly no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a true and fair view and the r¢port is limited to the matters set out in the statement below.
