Wiltshire Rural Mu51C is an independent charity set up in 1933 to provide music Isinging and
instrumental) le5$0n5 to school children in Wiltshire and lead musicjchoral performances In
rural communities in an age when far more people played and sang. The educational element
changed in 1979 when the Local Education Authority formally took ￿spOnsIbl11ty for school
music.
Today. Wiltshlre Rural Music brings the Soy of professional live performance and mtjsic-making
to isolated and marginalised communTties across Wiltshire. Including people afferted by rural
or social Isolation and those on low incomes.
We stand by the legacy of the founders of WRM, bringing music into the digital age whilst
m￿ntsIn1ng our grass-roots ethos.

We believÈ everyone in Wiltshire should have the opportunity to discover, explore and engage
with music-making. We provide music for all stages of life- from the early years to ￿ti￿fflent.
and everything in between. Through our rural outreach programmes, IKeep Music In Mind
Mu5icoI Lunch aub. Rurol Recitals), we will enable Wiltshire's remote and isolated
communities to access participatory music-makin8 Opportunities on their doorstep. offering
them a social outlet when they need it most. We viill support and encourage people of all ages
to progre55 their musical leaTning through our Bursaries and Awards programmes. From our
building. Y￿ will provide an inspirin8 space for our local community in Trowbridge. where
music can be made, appreciated and ￿lebrated.

Overview of our artivilies
Keep Music in Mind-ongoing
An ongoing project whereby WRM sends profe55ional musicians into Care Homes and
Memory Cafes throughout Wiltshire. pmiding IF¥e music to enrich and inspire those who
attend. Music has been proven to unlock memories and b005t wellbeing in Alzheimer's
patients and the results speak for them5elve5. A sleepy care home lounge is transformed into
tapping toes and broad grins once the music stsrts. Keep Music in Mind has brought violinists.
singers. clarinetbsts and piano players into homes and cafes on 33 occasions throughout the
year, bringing smiles to an average of 15 people every time. In a 12 month period we have
visited care homes and memory cafe5 in Trowbridge. Bradford on Avon, Chlppenham,
Warminster, Swindon, Westbury, Devizes. Corsham and Cricklade.

Muslcal Lunch aub- Fortnlghtly
A grant avRrded with thanks by wiltshi￿ Community Foundation, the Musical Lunch Club was
fully funded until February 2026. We have since secured further funds from WCF and
Trowbridge Town Councll to keep the sessions running throughout 2026. Based at our
Gloucester Road hub, V￿ Y￿1cOme over 65s from the local community for an hour of
singalongs. musical memory games
and INe performance. followed by
a simple lunch. The aim is to target
those feeling isolated. providing
them with a reason to leave the
house and the opportunity to make
friends whilst enjoying music from
professional artists. We have had

Tune
Noon- monthly
On the 2 Wednesday of the month we open our doors to the local music lovers for our
monthly Tune@Noon - an hourfs concert for £5, which includes unlimited coffee and cake.
The average tskings over the 11 sessions are £67.37. We have enjoyed sets from Lightgarden.
Blssboro Flute Trio, Ebonite, Sue Lord and Doves Peace Choir to name but a few. We have
seen a huge increase in audience numbers throughout the year- our most popular con￿rtS

Uz Lawrence Award
An annual invFte for applications from young
musicians heading off to study music at further
education. The Liz Lawrence Award is a £l.l)))
prize for one 17-18 year old who has shown skill
and promise in their musical discipline. After an
informal audition, the winner is presented with a
heque a5 well as the opportunity to curate their
own winnerf5 concert the following summer. The
concerts are a showcase of their tslent as well as
the chance to collaborate with musical friend5 and
colleagues in a one off performance celebrattng
THEM. all with the support of WRM. Previous
winners have played at Longleat House, Edington
Priory and Wiltshire Music Centre.
The 2025 winner 15 jazz trumpeter Daniel
Hammond from Box whose concert is in July at
Wiltshire Music Centre. Auditions for this yearfs
award are Set to take place on 22 July. He was
presented with his cheque by the Mayor of
Trowbridge in De￿Mber.
InstNment Hlre
We have a huge range of classical and acoustic instruments available for hire in varying sizes.
We offer these instruments on a daily or quarterly basis for MO￿ pennanent learners,
particularly giving younger leamer5 the opportunsty to try out an instrumenL alleviating the
expense of buying an instrument for just a trial period. We supported 4 adults and 23 young
students over the course of the year with this service as well as one school.
ABRSM runs their termty exams from our centre with a team of volunteers appointed by
WRM, steV￿rding for a period of 314 days. We welcomed an average of 50 students per
session over three terms of the year. 50 thavs 150 nervous candidates who are welcomed by
our kind Stewards on the day of their exam.

related expenses. This is available to all
children and adults residing in Wiltshire.

113 Gloucester Road in Trowbridge is a vibrant and busy venue. where ensemble5 rehea￿.
individuals teach and practÉce and young people learn. As well as our WRM ensembles
(Saturday Orchestra, Ebonite Clarinet Choir. String-A-lon& String Ensemble and Chamber
Strings), the venue is also home to our monthly Tune@Noon events. at which local musicians
perform an hour-long concert to WRM members and the general public. Our hub is also often
hired by external groups such as. the Assotiated Board of Royal Schoo15 of Music for the
Trowbridge area exam hub (3 times per year). Wiltshire Young Musicians for their weekly
Trowbridge Junior String group, Doves Peace Choir. Singing Mamas choir, a flute group. plu5
individuals for private hire.
We are also pleased to hire out the beautiful Yamaha baby grand piano to those who would
like to test out the instrument ahead of their exam. We are often complemented on the
quality of the instrument and have seen an increase in those wishing to hire the space to play

As well as our Newsletter that goes out to registered members three times a year Isummer,
Winter and Easterl, our social media following has continued to grow. Facebook rnay be on
slow-down. but tvs worth noting that the mid to older generations still really turn to it for
infonnation in the community. We've seen some athve engagement from the .20 Years of Li2
Lawren￿. campaign which has dug into the archives to see where the alumni afe now.
Thanks to reaching out to FB groups in Trowbrid8e and surrounding areas, we have ￿allY seen
huge growth in our Tune@Noon audiences, particularly from neighbourFng streets.
In5tagram has allowed us to reach younger 8roups using reels and short videos - this has
particularly worked for the newest Singing Mamas choir. Trowbridge's local newsp3per
'Celebrate' has also given us 3 great deal of column inche5 to shout about what we do which
h3s been a huge help. And our local radio (BBC Wittshire and West Wilts Radiol have been
very 5UPPOrtive in spreadin8 the word on our events.

We are pleased to report that Wiltshlre Rural Muslt secured £43,247 through Grants and
Donations during 2025-26. Funding applications totalling £18.667 were raised for restricted
projects, and it should be noted that some of those applications were written in 2024-5 {there
is often a significant period between submission and decision).
Donations reached £24,581 through a further significant donation from Audrey CatFord's
estate, the support of our exam stewards and members. St Swithins Church. Bathampton and
residential homes around the county. We would also like to thank all the trusts. foundation
local councils and businesses for their sUPPOrt - we could not carry out our valuable work
thout their help. Wiltshire Rural Musit employ5 3 freelan￿ funding consultant for 44 days a
year. The current consultant Rachael Holtom. ha5 been in post since May 2023, and thts year's
donations refiect an accumulation of her sustained efftjrt. Rachael handed in her notice in
April 2026 and we look forward to welcoming the newest member of the team in June.

Welcome to this year's report. It has been a really good year
with a few downs but I'm happy to report many ups.
whe￿ to begin. our finarKe5 are better than they have been
for quite a while due to the generous gift from the estate of
Audrey Catford. Thi5 amount of money helps to keep us in
good stead.
We have had a few maintenance issues Wlth the flat and the
building in general which have been dealt with as quickly as
we can to avoid disruption to those using the premises.
During the Summer holidays the kstchen and floor wlll be
updated which is long overdue.

The lunch cknb continues to thrive with every seat taken and those people enjowng lunch and
thE entert3inmenL Tune@Noon is also full to capacty with the entertainment drawing In more
and more. tt's lovely to see people enjoying music and singing rf they know the son8 and
humming rf they're not sure. a big thank you to Daisy for arranging the slngers and musicians
who perfonn.
Last year's Liz Lawrence Award winner Dan￿1 Hammond and friends will be performing at the
Music Centre in Bradford on Avon - not to be missed. We also have a day of auditions for the
2026 award.
Rachael has done a tremendous job of applying and securing funds for u5. knowing what to
apply for and when to apply for it. However I'm sorry to report Rachael will be leaving us during
May to do all the things on her to do {￿t which is getting longer, without her commttment to the
fundraisin8 we wouldn't have been able to fijnd the Lunch Club and Keep Music in Mind so a
very big thank you to Rachael we wlll mlss you but hope you enjoy whatever comes next.

board continues to concentrate our efforts on our core function, that of assisting young people
in their musical education. older people in Wiltshire as well a5 reaching new communities with
new projects currently in plannlng.
