Achievements during 2020/21
The 2020/21 Year started with the Hall and Playing Fields being in lockdown because of the Covid19 Pandemic. At the end of 2019/20 we were forced to refund hire fees to all our regular and one-off hires, totalling more than £1,300. This left us with residual funds of just over £2,000 and no prospect of any hire income for the conceivable future. We took action to reduce our cleaning regime from daily to once a week, and with reduced heating and lighting costs, we were dependant on the £350 a month container hire income to cover our monthly outgoings, including grass cutting and Insurance.
There were several lockdowns and associated restrictions imposed on us during the year, and although regular users could use the field as and when rules allowed, the Hall could not be hired out.
Because we are liable for Business Rates, we applied for, and received, Government Grants for businesses forced to close because of the pandemic during the year. These grants totalled £30,241
This allowed us to look to refurbishing our two football team showers that were in a poor state of repair.
With a further grant from a local developer of £10,000, we authorised the work to be done in June 2020, whilst the hall was shut.
The cost was just under £23,000 and gave the football teams high quality working showers.
We applied for, and received Grants from the Case Trust, Angus Brewer Trust and Village Day Committee of a further £7,834.
This allowed us to replace all the lighting in the Hall in November 2020 with low voltage LEDs. Additionally, the field barriers were replaced and a new sewerage pump replacing the old, broken one.
Ending the year, restrictions were still in place and although it was hopeful that regular hirers may be able to return both to the Hall and Field, it is unlikely that the Hall will be hired for one-off party events until infection rates drop to a much lower level
The good news is that with the generous Grants we received during the year and the income from our storage containers on site, we ended the year with a healthy bank balance despite the lockdowns, whist undertaking some badly needed maintenance jobs at the Hall.
