Clarke's Educatlon Foundatlon provldes educatlonal grants to schoolsf youth organlsatlons and
indlvldual resldents of the parfshes of Wokefleld and Straffield MortSmer In West Berkshlre and
Mortimer West End in Hampshire.
The prlnopal recipients of grants are university Students who are supported throughout their flrst
three years.
Grants are also made available for educational purposes to: loca5 schools to cover items not available
from the Local Education Authorityi Other organisations such as Scouts and Guides. mature students.
apprentlces and for vocatlonal tralnlng.
The charlty owns part of the land and bulldlngs comprising Mortimer St Mary's School, the School
Cottage, the School House and Its garden. The latter being the charltles prlndpal Sour￿ of income.
The charlty derlves Its Income from rentlng the School House to tenants, modest Investment Interest
and, In 2024, a substantlal grant from Stratfleld Mortlmer Rellel In Need Charity.
Followlng a number of urgent repalrs In 2020, the trustees commlssloned a survey Into the general
condltlon of thls 150+ year School House. Thls revealed a programme of works to be carrled out over
5 years estimated at c£35,000. Thls year saw further work on thls programme with the long overdue
replacement of Its kltchen & other mlnor works at a total cost of £12,918.
2024 saw unprecedented demand for unlversity grants. Clarkes supported a record 44(40 In 2023)
universlty students wlth bursaries amountlng to £34,708 (£30,050 in 2023) thanks In a large part to
the efforts of Trustee Mollle Lock and Clerk to the Trustees Valede Hudson. For whlch efforts, many
thanks.
The charlty made a further £2,377 (£3,170 In 2023) worth of grants to a varlety of educatlon related
projetts Indudlng: school trlps; books for school leavers, travel for educatlon and an onllne course.
The charlty has funds Invested In two Charltles Offlclal Investment Funds (COIF).
To meet demand for university grants the Charity had to release some of its Investments Funds.
At the year-end:
the COIF Investment Fund was worth £64,870 (£68,246 In 2023).
the COIF Deposlt Fund stood at £756 (£719 In 2023).
the current account balance was £12,509 (£27,524 in 2023)
giving total combined funds of £78,134 (£96,489 in 2023)
