Clarke's Education Foundation provides educatlonal grants to schoolsi youth organisations and indlvidual
residents of the parlshes of Wokefield and Stratfield Mortlmer In West Berkshlre and Mortimer West End
in Hampshire.
The principal ￿CIpIentS of grants are universlty students who are supported throughout their first three
years and the trustees revlsed these grants upwards slgnlflcantly thls year.
Grants are also made available for educational purposes to local schools to cover items not available
from the Local Education Authority. other organisations such as Scouts and Guldes; mature students.
apprentices and for vocational trainlng.
The charity owns part of the land on which Mortimer St Mary's School is built, the School Cottage, the
School House and its garden.
Followlng a number of urgent repairs In 2020, the trustees commlssloned a survey Into the general
condition of thls 150+ year old bullding. This revealed a programme of works to be carrled out over 5
years estlmated at c£35,000.
In 2023 we replaced the ￿ntral heatlng boller & made further reparatlons to the schoolhouse and
grounds at a cost of £8,812.
The charity derives Its income from renting the School House to tenants, modest investment interest
and, In 20231 grants from Stratfleld Mortlmer Rellef In Need Charlty and Stratfield Mortlmer Falrground
Charlty.
In 2023, Clarkes supported 40 (20 In 2022) unlverslty students wit.h bursarles amountlng to £30,050
(£13,200 in 2022) thanks In a large part to the efforts of Trustee Mollie Lock.
The thartty made £3,170 (£2,606 In 2022) grants to a varlety of educatlon related projects Includlng:
school trfps & books for school leavers.
The charity has funds Invested In two Charftles Qfflclal Investment Funds (COIF).
At year end the COIF Investment Fund was worth £68,246 (£62,415 In 2022) whlch represents an
Increase In funds of £5,831 for the year.
The COIF Deposit Fund balan￿ stood at £719 (£689 in 2022) the slight increase in value attrlbutable to
retalned Interest.
At year end total reserves (bank account plus investments) were £96,489 (£106,002 In 2022).
