statement of trustees, responsibilities.
The trustees (vtho are also the directors of Micklefield Nursery School (Seaford) for
the purposes of company law) are responsible for preparing the Report of the
Trustses and the financial statements in accordance wth applicable law and United
Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally A¢￿pted Accounting
Practice), including Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting
Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland..
The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records vthich disclose
with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charitable company
and to enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities
Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP). They are also responsible for
safeguarding the assets of the charitable company and hence for taking reasonable
steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

Structure, Govemance and Management:
Nature of the Goveming Document and constitution of the ch8rfty.
The charity is constituted as a company limitsd by guarantee and is Iherefore
govemed by a memorandum and articles of assoclation adopted on 23 July 2007.
The trust is administered by the Council of Govemors who are trustees of the
incorporated trust. Eligibility for membership of the charity and membership of the
board of trustees is govemed by the memorandum and artides of association. There
are no restrictions in the goveming document on the operation of the charity or on its
investrnent pov￿rS, other than those imposed by general charity law.
Trustees have not taken any remuneration or expenses during the year but volunteer
their Ser￿￿$ in the interests of ensuring first class preschool provision for the
children of the charity.
There is a family connection belween Kiesa Elliott (daughter) and David Lane
(father). with the full knowledge and approval by the Goveming Body.
Methods adoptsd for the recruitm8nt and appointment of new trustees.
The admission of new trustees {members) requires the approval of the Governing
Body which has absolute discretion a5 to the admission of any person.
Majorrisks to which the charity is exposed, reviews and systems to mitigate risks.
The Governors have assessed the major risks to ￿1¢h the trust is exposed, and are
satisfied that systems are in place to mitigate exposure to the major risks.

The charity's object is to advance education in particular the education of children
below cornpulsory school age in Seaford. East Sussex. UK and the surrounding
area.
Mission Statement.

Benefits to the Communlty.
The charity has been educatlng chlldren and benefittSng the local communlty since
September 1994. We v￿lCOMe all children from every background.
We accept children from 2 years to school age which means we help children learn
and develop important soclal skllls they will take with them into main school and
beyond. We lay important foundatlons in skllls such as tum taking, staying safe,
communication and language development, teamwork and conflict resolution. All
these skills enable our chlldren to be a responsible member of their local community.
We also V￿rk closely wlth our local schools to prepare our children for starting main
school.
A¢hl•vem•nt8 and Perfomiance:
ACh￿veMentS.
We have continued to offer our Tiger Club services meaning that chlldren can attend
the Nursery 8.00am to 5:30pm, durlng Temi Tlme. Thls has been a popular choice
with our working familles.
We now welcome families into the bullding at plck up tima and offer full nursery
viewings to prospective children.
Working with and supporting familie8 Post COVID continue8 to be a real focus wlthin
the nursery.
Friends of Micklefield.
This year has been a good fundralslng year for Mlcklefleld Nursery wlth a total of
£1,356 raised, less £247 costs.
We held a Christmas Sing-a-Long, Easter Raffl6 and Teddy Tombola and an end of
temi raffle.
Our main focus on fundraising for the school year was for a climbing wall to be
placed in one of our Woodland Village gardens. We raised £500 towards thls.
Forest School.
Micklefield now offer aftemoon 'Forest School, outings to our pre4chool children.
Activities include trips to the local park, Forest School activities in a neighbou¢s
garden and attendlng the Forest School site at our local Primary School.
Children.
The charity is open for 38 weeks in each year, and currently has 136 active thildren
on its register.
The charity offers up to 10 x three-hour sessions per week from 9am to 12pm and
1pm to 4pm Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays). We also offer a 1-hour
lunch session 12pm to 1 pm and parents can choose mominglaftemoon sessions of 3
or 4 hours or all-day sessions of 9.5 hours.
The nursery also offers Early Morning dub from 8.00am to 9.00am and Afternoon
club 4:00pm to 5.'30pm.

The charity pays staff the Govemmenfs National LSving Wage or above. Staff who
are on a tem-ts'me contract are paid 38 weeks of the year when the charity is open,
but their pay is spread over 12 equal monthly payments per year as staff prefer tt that
way. Staff are also paid their statutory holKlay ents'llement.
Capacity.
Children numbers always start off I0￿r at the start of ts school year (September)
but build up over the year. We had a total of 136 thildren on our books for our
summer temi.
Funding and Tax-Free Childcare.
The charity offers 30hr funded places (subject to capath) to parents.
The charity also offers places to families eligible for 2-year-old funding.
The charlty Is also registered as a Tax-Free Childcare provider.
Advertising.
The charity has a Facebook page administered by our SenK)r Admin. Coordinator and
a web site ￿￿.MICkIefieldnUrSery.Co.uk'.
Adverts are also placed in local papers, booklets etc.

Flnanclal Revlew:

The level of reseNes is £392.903 (2022.. £432,375). Ifs Ihe policy of the charity that
unrestricted funds bthich have not been designated for a specific use should be
maintained at a level equivalent to at least six month's expenditure. The trustees
consider that reserves at the level will ensure that, in the event of a significant drop
in funding. they Y￿11 be able to continue the charity's cu￿ent activities while
consideration is given to ways in which additional funds may be raised.
Tumover and Prorrt.
The past year has been especially challenging, but Micklefield was able to adopt very
careful management of costs.
The charity's turnover was £401,948 (2022: £446,664) resulting in a trading loss of
-£49,212 (2022.. +£18,499)
sin￿ the Cov1￿19 pandemic we have been waiting for a year like this so have
been building our reserves. The 9.7% wage increase also had a big impact on the
company's finances.
Share Capital.
The company is limited by guarantee and therefore has no share capital. All trustees
are members of the company and guarantee to contributs not exceeding £10 in the
event of a V￿ndIng up.
Income and Expenditure Bre8kdown.
The main funding for the charity is provided by East Sussex County Council's
Service Agreement for Providing Free Early Leaming Places {ELPs) for Two Year
Old's and Early Years Education Ents'tlement (EYEE) for Three & Four Year Old's.
This accounted for 70% of the charity's total income, with the remaining 30•￿ coming
from unfunded thildren, lunch club, bursaries and fund raising.
The major expenditure was staff wages amounting to 82% of the total costs.
