Description of the charity's trusts
Type of goveming document
The Group's goveming documents are those of the The
Scout Association. They consist of a Royal Charter, which in
tum gives authonty to the Bye Laws of Ihe Association and
The Policy, Organisation and Rules of The Scout Association.

How the chaiity is constituted
The Group is a trust established under its rules which are
common to all Scouts.
Trustee s8lection m8thods
The Tnjstees are appointed in accordance with the Policy,
anisation and Rules of The Scout AssocialK)n.
Additional govemance issues
Thè Group is managed by the Group Trustee Board, the
memb8rs of which are the 'Charity TNStees' of the Scout
Group which is an educational chanty. As chaiily trustees they
are responsible for corylying Wth legislation applicable to
chaiities. This includes the registration, keeping proper
accounts and making retums to the Charity Commisston as
appropriate.
The Ttustee Board consists of the Chair, Treasurer and 8
Trustees (including 2 Ex Officio Tfustees, and 2 CO￿pIed
Tnjstees) and meet every month.
Member5 of the Trustee Board complete B8ing a Scouts
Trustee leaming vffihin the first 6 months of joining the Board.
This Group Trustee Board exists to make sure the charity is
well-managed, risks are assessed and mitigated, buildings
and equipment are in good w0￿1ng order. and everyone
foll0v￿ legal requ irements and the organisatbn's policies and
rules. Their support helps other volunteers run highquality
and safe programThs that gives young people skills for life.
The group has in place systems of inlemal controls that are
designed to provide ￿asOnable assurance against material
mismanagement or loss, these include 2 signatories for all
payments and a comprohensive insurance policies to ensure
that insurable risks a￿ covered.

The Scoul Method
Scouting takes place when young people, in partnership with
adults, work together based on the

Summary of the main activities in relation
lo these objects
The Group's main function is lo support the sections in
achieving the aims of the Scout Association. As a Group the
main activities during the last twelve monlhs have included
but not limited to.
Local hik88, cooking over open fires, camping and lots of
badg8 work, encouraging youth leadership and supporting
the continued development and expansion of the Group.
The Provision of Scouling within the G￿up is totally
dependent on the contribution made by volunteers.
Public benefrt statement
The Group meets the Charity commiss￿Sn'S public benefit
criteria under both the advancement of education and the
advancement of citizenship or community development
headings.

Achievements and performance
Summary of the main achievements of
the charily during the yea
It was another successful year of Scouting in Calne. The
group continues to attend the major community evenls held
within the town, showcasing our youth leadership as well as
raising sigrbrficant funds to provide fun activities for oui young
people.
As a Trustee Board have been focussed on increasing
memb8rship and attracting rrK)re adutt leaders to support the
growth of 1 st Calne Scouts, making scouting available lo all
young members of our community.
This year also saw the beginning of a period of significant
investment inlo the scout hall, replacing a very old boiler and
the refU￿ishMent of what was the boy's toilets whefe three
separate cubicles have been built to be used by
an
ender.

The Group's policy on r8serv8S IS to hold sufficient resourcgs
to continue the charitable activities of the group should
incom8 and fundraising actlvities fall short. The Group TnJsl88
Board considers that the group should hold a sum equivalent

signrficant hall repairs or maintenance l.

The Group does nol have sufficient funds lo invest in longe
tenn investments. The Group has Iherefor8 adopted a risk
averse stralegy to Ihe inveslffent of its funds. All funds are
held in cash using only mainstream banks or building
societies.

Plans for future periods (details of any
significant activities planned to achieve
them)
The Trustea Board continue to manage the investment into
the infrastructure of the hall, wilh plans in place lo redecorate,
supported by local voluteers.
Focus remains on seeking support from adult volunteers,
encouraging Young Leaders to join our Trustee Board and
expanding the Group to a provision for th8 younger member5
of our community by adding a Squirrel drey.

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 31/03/2024. 

- **Responsibilities and** As the charity trustees of the Trust, you are responsible for the preparation **basis of report** of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”). 

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
