**The Scout Method**
Scouting takes place when young people,
in partnership with adults, work together
based on the
values of Scouting and:
- enjoy what they are doing and have fun
- take part in activities indoors and
outdoors
- learn by doing
- share in spiritual reflection
- take responsibility and make choices
- undertake new and challenging activities

whole.|Para 1.20|It has been another successful year in
1st Robertsbridge Scout Group. We
currently have 90 children attending across
Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers,
providing them a welcoming and inclusive
place to develop friendships, have fun, take
part in adventures, and develop their skills
for life. We have had 2 whole group events
this year: Firstly, contributing to the village's
800 anniversary celebrations in June,
which included building and parading
soapboxes and running a stall with soft
drinks and strawberries and cream.
Secondly, in August we had a whole Group
Camp at a Scouting Activity Centre in West
Sussex, with 65 people on site under
canvas taking part in a range of activities
including climbing, archery, shooting and
team-building challenges. Our oldest
section, the Explorers, have had a busy
year, completing Duke of Edinburgh
expeditions, and competing in events
including the Overland Competition, the
London Monopoly Challenge, and Dragon| Boat racing (to name just a few), as well as regular camps and more local scouting activities. Along with a full programme of 'badge-earning' activities, Scouts were also able to visit the Bowles Activity Centre for a full day of abseiling, raft building and rock climbing. The younger sections (Cubs and Beavers) have had an equally busy year with activities ranging from fire lighting skills, hiking, pioneering, backwoods cooking, bell ringing, cricket, and visits to the fire station to learn about fire safety. All Sections within the Group have had young people achieving their top awards, including another Explorer being presented with his King's Scout Award (the highest youth award that can be achieved). The Group's policy on reserves is to hold
sufficient resources to continue the
charitable activities of the Group should

The Trustee Board considers that the
Group should hold a sum equivalent to 5
months running costs, circa £5000.
The Group held reserves of approximately
£26000 against this at year end. This is
above the level required for operating
expenses. However, the Group has issued
an Invitation to Tender for some extensive
works and this work will cost in the area of
£15000 to £18000 so reducing the reserves

The Group's Income and Expenditure is
normally quite low although the Group has
previously received Government Grants as
a result of Covid. As a consequence it does
not generally have sufficient funds to invest
in longer-term investments such as stocks
and shares. The Group has therefore
adopted a low risk strategy to the
investment of its funds. All funds are held in
cash using only mainstream banks or
building societies or The Scout
Association's Short Term Investment
Service.
The Trustee Board regularly monitors the
levels of bank balances and the interest
rates received to ensure the Group obtains
maximum value and income from its
