The Charity follows the provisions of the Scout 1[st] Rye Scout Group Registered Charity no 305899 Trustees’ Annual Report - 2 - Association’s Policy Organisation & Rules (“POR”) document, which sets minimum standards for Scout groups nationwide. Trustees are appointed by the Scout Council at the Charity’s Annual General Meeting. ## **Organisation** Day-to-day organisation of activities for young people is the responsibility of the Lead Volunteer for the scout group (formerly known as the Group Scout Leader). There are also Lead Volunteers for each Section (Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts) who plan and run the programmes for each section alongside other volunteers. The Charity’s volunteers also facilitate a local Explorer Scouts group, which is run by Hastings, Rye & District Scouts. ## **Review of the year** The Scout Group continues to be successful in attracting young people to participate across all Sections. At time of writing, there are six Squirrels, five Beavers, 21 Cubs, 25 Scouts, and 16 Explorers. During 2025 a full programme was delivered. This included a camp for the Cubs section, and participation in the Kent International Jamboree for the Scouts and Explorers sections. As always , the biggest risk to the continued viability of the Scout Group is the availability of volunteers to help run activities. We are increasingly reliant on a small number of individuals to keep everything running. The Trustees are grateful to all of the volunteers for the time and energy they devote to making scouting in Rye a success. 1[st] Rye Scout Group Registered Charity no 305899 Trustees’ Annual Report - 3 - ## **Trustees’ responsibilities in relation to the financial statements** The Charity trustees are responsible for preparing a trustees' annual report and financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice). These financial statements are required to give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the Charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources for each year. In preparing these financial statements, the Trustees are required to: - (a) select suitable accounting policies and apply them consistently; - (b) observe the methods and principles of the Charities SORP; - (c) make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent: (d) state whether applicable UK accounting standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements; and - (e) prepare the financial statements on a going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the Charity will continue in operation. The Trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose, with reasonable accuracy at any time, the financial position of the charity and which enable them to ensure that the financial statements of the Charity comply with Charity Commission guidance. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities. I report in respect of my examination of the 1[st] Rye Scout Group accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. ## **Independent examiner’s statement** I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: 1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the 1[st] Rye Scout Group as required by section 130 of the Act; or 2. the accounts do not accord with those records. I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
