Swnmary of main actr¥it
St Nicolas 9th Guildford Scout Group ￿ run and managed by unpaid volunteers and offers a wide
pro8ramme of activitie5 to yourk8 people aged 6-18. There are 4 sect4ons.' Beavers l88e 6-81, Cubs
I&IOl. scouts11￿14> and EXpkJ￿rsII4-18). The Explorer kout Unit IESUI was set up in 2014 and
has a Partnership 4gieemeni with the main group. Th￿ Annual Report covers all lour sections of
the group. including rhe ESU.
The group 15 very gratelul lor the support of the Guildford United Reformed Churth, which 8rants
the use of its ￿Wer hall for meetin8S.

Group- Once again. we have run a full programme of actwities across all four sections and we
corrt¢nue to have no problems in iecTUiting young people and currerstly hold waitlD8 lists for a
coupte of se￿￿)n$. Sally Josh Goodwin stepped down as GSLthis year. We have nix been able to
recruit a replacement but he is a very hard act to follow. ￿50, Angle Lee stepped down from
ading the Scouts section in Maich ￿3¥In8 another huge gap. Recruitment of new leaders is very
much the priority for 2025-2026 and also ensuring that the Trustee Board SUPPLIrt5 and value$ 311
of ouradult volvnteers. Thankful￿. the Trustee Board remains stroTr8. This ts the first full financial
year since the pandemic without any exceptional payments the accounts look robust with an
increase in re5er¥es ol ovef one IIK)usand ptsunds. This was boosied though by an equipment
grant from Thames Water. We continue to monitor subscriptions and payments closely. In
conclusion. a s(￿ year finaff ially but we do need to boost volunteers to eftsure we can Corfinue

ta¥ers: La5tyeaf was packed with excr15nR attNsties for our 24 Beavers. who earned rnany
bad8es. for example. Ihe Buihjer. Di$3bility Awarene55. Emergency Aid. and Experiments badges.
Highlights included a visrt to Disability Challengers in Stoke Park. attending the Distritt Activity
Afternoon in Nomandy. taking part in Suryival Camp, and participating in parade services at St
Nicolas, and the URC. More r￿entty, Ihe Beavers have chosen to work towards the Space badge
and will also cornplete the Internaiional badge with actwities like a Spanish-themed evenin8. They
have participated in junk modellin& making autumn crafts, and preparin8 for the next Survival
Camp. Badge goals include COOK Gardener. Cornmunicator, and Global Issues. with exciting
events like the Oistrict Skepo¥er at Winche5terScience Cefitre. a Mothering Sunday parade at St
Nics. and a INely 8urn5 Night Ce￿br4¢￿)n. Our leadership team remains strong, with BSL, A8SL
Section A5Si5tants Enric and Lyndsey, and I￿)pefUllY1 Sarah 8irch Joinir¥B us soon. We're also been
supported this year by Young Leader Thomas Carter and DolE helpers Jamie McGowan. Alexandra
Williams. Sophie Blake. and Emity Scott.
Cub5- Cherthe p*t year, the Cubs have enjoyed a fvll and varied programme, with mernber5hip
remaining Stroll8 and CU(￿nt￿ standing at 30 cubs. Despr(e Akela being on sabbatical for part5 of
the year. the sectH)n was abty led by a dedicated tearn of leader5, section J55i5tants, and three
enthusiastic Young Leaders. Cubs took part in a wide range of indoo¥ and outdoor actwities.
including hikes at 8lackheath. pond dippin& 83rdeninL kite makin& water games, and a visit to
the Spike. They explored cornmunity topics throu8h first aid ifainin& learning about local services
like the f(x)d bank and the police, and participating in parades and remembrance activities.
HiKhli8hts included attending Drstrict and Survival Camps. and preparin8 for a delayed-summe
camp at 8roadstone Warren in October. Cubs atso £ompleted bad8e work such as Gardener,
Money Skil￿. and Erner8encY￿d 2. and twk part in competitior6, qu12zes. and themed meetings
like the popuL3r'Cubs' Clw)*e" ￿￿ht.

Scouts- lknrthe year. the koul troop has sten a tynamic and eventful calendar, 8rowing
from 32 to 42 Scouts. Wlth a gIr￿t0-boY ratto averaginK arou￿1 one-third 8ir15. The troop
wekomed several new members from the waiting list and from cubs. whtle also noting a youn8er
derno8raphic due to the lin8ering irnpact ol COVID-19 on older Scouts. progression. Throu8hout
the year, Scouts participated rn a wide ran8e of camps arKI events, includin6 County Expedition
Challenges. Kip'n Kayak. Scoutabout. and the International jambowl￿e. They earned a
remarkable 349 badges collective￿. iKluding a Chief ScoLrt's Gold Award and new Nights Awav
wog8le5. Activitie5 followed a'Ski115 for Life. theme. with events like Scout Skills, Camp Skills. and
several bad8￿focused camps. Notable achievements included outstanding perforrnance in
expedition challenges. and the continuation of a stron8 link wtth the E¥plorer un*t for Bronze DofE
preparatton. Sad￿. Hathi stepped down as leader in Maich 2025. Fergys Bell and Rainer Mcfjill
have stepped up in the interim a5 the Group as a whole works out how besi to progress with the
Scout 5ertion.
Explorers." The Explorer unit continues to run a weekend programme. focussed on outdoor
activities and expeditions. We ha¥e 32 Explorers and 3 Leaders. Some other local Explorers joln
our 6ionze DofE expedition5 and other events. We have also invited St Nicolas 9th Scouts to some
events and ￿rt￿1pèted in Onsknv Infants and St Nicolas Church summer fairs to promote the
Group and supportvolunteer recruf(ment.
